POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE:
Director, Supplier Diversity
REPORTS TO:
Vice President, Finance/CFO
ORGANIZATION:
A regional health system serving western Michigan. The health network
features seven hospitals with more than 2,000 beds and more than 140
service sites.
LOCATION:
Grand Rapids, MI
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Develop, direct, and implement strategic and tactical initiatives for supplier
diversity first tier and second tier programs that create opportunity for diverse
supplier inclusion in strategic sourcing process
 Develop metrics, methods, procedures and best practices, which drive change
across the organization. This includes development of a diverse supplier
database for use by internal leadership
 Establish procedures to ensure supplier diversity data is gathered, distributed,
and monitored for compliance and measurement of progress with the
Supplier Diversity Program. Responsible for creating and communicating
results of supplier diversity reports, including: quarterly tracking and
reporting of dollars spent in all areas of organization with Minority and
Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs), quarterly second tier
reporting, and analyzing both first tier and second tier performance metrics
 Work with Marketing and Communications to communicate programs and
gain visibility for the Supplier Diversity Program and related goals
 Partner with Diversity Officer and Diversity Leadership Council to meet
objectives of the company’s Diversity Action Plan
 Partner with Construction and Design to meet objectives of Construction
Diversity Action Plan and to support community and outreach objectives
 Work in conjunction with the Regional Purchasing Network’s Contract
Administrator to foster supplier diversity throughout West Michigan
 Lead procurement teams in identifying MWBE suppliers for first and second
tier opportunities
 Plan and execute internal and external supplier diversity events
 Represent the company at targeted regional and national trade shows,
conferences, and supplier workshops
 Develop new relationships while maintaining fiduciary responsibility by
creating opportunities for minority owned suppliers to compete for business
at the company with diverse suppliers which may be candidates to participate
in the company’s sourcing events
 Ensure that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality,
cost effectiveness, and efficiency
 Engage in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and
implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to
implement new services for areas of responsibility

 Ensure that services are provided in accordance with state and Federal
regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation / compliance
requirements
 Perform such individual assignments as management may direct. Establishes
and maintains effective working relationships within the organization
 Engage in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best
practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills
necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities
 Complete required continuous training and education, including department
specific requirements
 Ensure that required documentation for activities within areas of
responsibility is performed in an accurate and timely manner
 Ensure that patients, their families, visitors, customers, and employees are
treated with kindness and respect
 Demonstrate teamwork and integrity in all work-related activities
 Ensure that work-performed supports the company’s mission of Superior
Quality Personal Care
 Demonstrate knowledge of hospital safety and infection control policies and
procedures, maintaining a safe and clean environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
 Minimum of 7-10 years experience in professional purchasing/supply chain
 Extensive knowledge of Supplier Diversity programs and program
development required
 Experience working in an organization of great size and complexity
 Demonstrate ability to communicate at all levels in the organization through
presentations and reports
 Demonstrate ability to develop metrics, methods and procedures which drive
results across the organization
 Excellent oral and written communication and motivational skills
