Regents Approves

Pathways

Dr. Busualdo will be coming to the Dec. 12 meeting at

Madison Oneida. What do we need to ask him? How to attract and develop new teachers? We need more consistent communication with them. It would be great if we could get lists of their grads

Executive committee requested our input on their discussion with SED. Implementation protocols will be important.

1. Should ½ unit of CFM and 1 unit of CTE be a graduation requirement? All students should have

CFM, but when / where? Career Exploration

2. Pathways only for approved programs? As long as there is a standard to the approved programs as well as flexibility. There will be additional assessments approved at some point. Consensus: approved programs only

3. When should the assessment be given? Waiting until the end of the senior year, doesn’t help anyone. It defeats the purpose.

4. Pathways= Career clusters: Yes

5. Regulatory issues / questions: Regulation saying that

Dave Arnsten and Rachelle Ramoda will bring our thoughts back to the executive committee.

We all need to give input on the public comment page and encourage our partners to comment.

Dave will send us the link when it is up.

They really need our leadership.

Dave has been posting information to our wiki when he gets it, but it would be great if we had someone who can come to this meeting to share information with us.

Dave reported that ACTEA executive committee has done some work. Now, teachers can be associate members of

ACTEA as part of the organizational membership. Nonmember organizations will not be eligible for Olivo. We will have ACTEA teacher of the year. Also, ACTEA has hired an advocate. We would also like to have teachers at the annual conference. Conference costs have been streamlined and one-day option will be available.

David S. distributed cheat sheet.

Sideline discussion: ACTEA wiki is great resource. (Lee asked for access. Dave A. will set up access for her.)

Change in perspective: All students with IEP’s should be tracked so that if they need it, they can get credential. Citi

(Tracy Fleming) has developed web-based solution. Some

BOCES are purchasing the tool and sell it to districts. It is coserable.

MO BOCES has switched to School Tool. He worked with

RIC and was able to put employability profile grading into it as well as a number of other features. They are serving as pilot and new features may be implemented in updated version in future. School tool is improving the way the two systems communicate (for students who are in both SPED and CTE). Rachelle suggested that NERIC and MORiC get

Judy and Lee volunteered.

All approved. They will give a report at the December meeting.

Tracy shared spreadsheet indicating where we were short of the number of teachers we can have to represent us. Some members had recommendations.

Ed shared some information on safety liability. It is on the wiki.

Each member will e-mail Tracy on

Monday to confirm their teacher(s).

Certification of CTE teachers is becoming a real issue.

Programs will not be approved if the teacher is not certified in the area required. Dave recommends documenting everything you do to try to find teachers. We need to work together with SED, Oswego, etc.

Some criminal justice teacher waivers for retired police officers are getting pulled.

Dave A. will organize a workshop with his certification specialist and see if she can come to December meeting.

Dave A. will recommend to executive committee to put a place on statewide wiki for job openings.

The following topics were discussed:

What do we do about accepting SPED students?

BOCES programs located in districts?

Using statewide assessment at pre-test? We recommend they make them available in early September and also that they use more than 15 questions. Lead team will probably meet in December

Reminder: MO BOCES has fantastic pastry arts program!

 Technical high schools? All day… can be political. P-tech can be used to fund one. Legislation needs to happen in order to make full-day programming a reality.
