The compound 1-chloroethane can be treated with either KOH aqueous solution or
in alcohol to form either an alkene or an alcohol.
(a)
Assign the peaks to the spectrum of 1-chloroethane.
(b)
Explain how the IR spectra of the products of the reaction of KOH(aq) or
KOH (alc) would differ.
(c)
The following spectrum was produced as a result of one of the reactions from
(b). Assign the peaks to the spectrum and identify if an alkene or alcohol was
produced.
