The IR spectrum presented a broad peak in the range of XXX – XXX cm-1 range. The typical
absorption frequency for ketones around 1700 cm[1 is not present either, which is a sign of
transformation of starting materials. The inconclusiveness of the IR spectrum is caused by a
very low sample concentration.
The GC spectrum shows interesting retention time differences at 4.021 and 4.134 minutes, which
can be assigned to the presence of axial and equatorial alcohol stereoisomers, respectively. This
is due to cis-isomers having a higher boiling point due to hydrogen bond aggregation and slower
elution through the GC column.
