Job Profile and responsibility:

The job profile includes designing LAN and WAN solution for various customer. This pre-sales activity involved selecting various network equipments and designing the entire solution in cost effective manner. The responsibility does not end by just preparing the technical solution. The next step is to use the previous experience for best prices from vendors, negotiating with them for best prices and giving the sales people good prices for proposal to become more attractive.

This extended responsibly ensures that we have more bright chance of turning the proposal in to order from customer. This efforts also helps in to have look at the price factor and know market dynamics which are necessary for any opportunity.

Major Design Project handled:

Central Bank of India Core Banking:

Job: Designing WAN and DC, DRC Network, security setup for CBI’s Core banking

requirement.

The responsibility was to design the Wide Area Network (also LAN for 100 Branches) for more than 1300 branches. The design was to be given in a cost efficient manner so that the solution as a whole is competitive and also meeting the entire technical requirement.

The real challenge was to choose right vendor and right product for the requirement with expansion and load taking into consideration at the same time making sure that design is not oversized so that it becomes beautiful design with very high cost which will result in loss of the opportunity.

DC and DRC setup including switching setup and security was another challenge.

The DC and DRC Security design involved many security devices to give complete security solution. The various security components involved External and Internal Firewalls,

Network and Host based IDS, Two-Factor authentication, etc.

Again the challenge of cost effective solution was there with all technical compliance keeping in mind.

Bank of India Core Banking:

This case was handled about one year back. The scope of work was more or less same as CBI as mentioned above.

The responsibility involved designing WAN, DC and DRC setup.

IDBI Core Banking:

This case was handled about 6 months back. Scope of work was more or less same as CBI as mentioned above except for their WAN

The responsibility involved designing DC and DRC setup.

Bharat Co-Op. Bank: Bharat co-op Bank wanted to set up Wide area Network along with Data

Center located in Mumbai. The requirement was to centralize banking practice and give them leading edge in their business domain.

I was involved in the design of both Data Center LAN as well as WAN spread across 30 locations across India. The design involved evaluation of bandwidth requirement and consider reliable a cost effective Network. The involvement in the project was from design, technical proposal till final negotiation, order and then helping implementation team to understand and implement the network before the network got stabilized.

Salient Feature of the design:

The design included transport of not only data but also Voice for remote branches (Which are not in the Same State as of DC).

The design also considered automated backup to maintain the connectivity even in case the primary link fails.

Some of the other big design projects include and not limited to, NAVY NOFRA Broadband project where I was involved in design of LAN for around 1700 nodes across campus, providing Broadband connection to them through Internet Leased Line along with required security fro Internet access. The users were spread across multiple buildings connected using Fiber backbone. Layer 2 switches were proposed in all buildings and Layer3 switch was proposed at the central side which got connected to each and every building using fiber uplinks.

Thyseen Krupp: TKII has a wide campus in Pune and had requirement to connect all their buildings across campus for data and voice connectivity.

I had proposed design for connecting all buildings using fiber backbone.

Different requirement for bandwidth were there for every user segments residing in different building and accordingly connectivity to building switch and uplink from that switch to main switch was given. E.g one of the building had multiple gigabit users for which uplink of 1 Gbps was not enough so in that case, Gigaetherchannel technology was proposed using which multiple gigabit links are logically aggregated in to single channel.

Cisco IP Telephony solution was proposed for voice requirement with Call Manger at

Central locations and IP Phones for users. The Campus had requirement for more than 1200 nodes.

Bank of India Phase III WAN which included WAN design for 400+ branches was designed which were to integrate with existing WAN network.

Wide Area Network designed for State of Maharashtra for connecting their Talukas,

District to the Mantralaya Mumbai and using that WAN for multiple government application and also for their Voice requirement.

The WAN involved more than 500 locations.

Designed IP Telephony solution for TATA Indicom using Cisco Call Manager and Cisco IP

Phones.

Major Projects Handled

Bharat Co-operative Bank (Mumbai)

Job: Designing WAN solution for Bank for their 30 branches spread across multiple states in India.

For Bank’s WAN requirement and to integrate the centralized banking, I was involved right from requirement understanding, designing cost effective and best solution and analyzing the network once it was setup.

The scope of work included WAN across 30 branches along with Voice over IP connectivity for 4 branches and also designing LAN at the central office using Layer 2 and layer 3 switches.

Tata Consultancy Serives (Mumbai)

Job: LAN, WAN and security design for various offices of TCS and also for their customers.

TCS one of the largest Software manufactures in India went with my organization for their internal and their end customer’s network setup including designing network for new sites as well upgrading the network setup at the existing locations.

I was the single point of contact from my company for requirement.

• IOCL (Bandra, Mumbai)

Job: LAN implementation

The project involved configuration of Catalyst 5500 switches for 500 nodes in the entire building. The 4 switches were placed at 4 floors that served connectivity to the entire building. The job involved IP address designing. Configuration of switches with creating

VLAN’s, spanning tree, Layer 3 routing between the VLAN’s.

• Bank of India (Mumbai)

Job: Design of Network for Wan connectivity.

The project involved designing of WAN connectivity for 725 locations of bank. The design made was hierarchical in nature with Core, distribution and access routers. It was designed with Cisco 7206 VXR routers at the core, Cisco 3745 routers at the distribution

& Cisco 1720 routers at the access layer. The entire protocol suite was IPSEC 3DES with

Voice support. The job also involved manpower estimation.

Tata Consultancy Serives (Mumbai)

Job: Design and implementation of Wireless LAN

The Project was to design and implement wireless LAN in a Campus owned by TCS. The responsibility was extended right from design to the successful implementation. The

Wireless LAN access was given to the top executives of the company.

Petronet LNG (Dahej, Gujarat)

Job: Implementing security devices such as Firewall and IDS in a live setup

The project was to implement security system in place where different network segments of the PLL which were terminating in Dahej needed to be separated using PIX Firewall and also monitor each segments using IDS.

There were two levels of firewall in failover mode to provide two level security for there critical data to be accessed from outside WAN network.
