Adult: Onset of puberty and older
FOR ALL AGES, SWITCH “COMPRESSOR” EVERY 2 MINUTES

Check Responsiveness (Tap & Shout). If unresponsive:
o Open airway
 No C-Spine Trauma: Head Tilt/Chin Lift
 Suspected C-Spine Trauma: Jaw Thrust
 If jaw thrust does not work, carefully use Head Tilt/Chin Lift
o Check breathing (Look/Listen/Feel for 5-10 seconds).
If not breathing:
 Attempt 2 rescue breaths (1 second each; just enough to
produce chest rise).
 Do breaths produce Chest rise?
 No: Reposition airway and attempt 2 rescue breaths. If
unsuccessful, see “Choking/FBAO” section.
 Yes: Check Carotid Pulse (5-10 seconds)
 No pulse – or you are not sure:
o 5 cycles of 30 compressions: 2 breaths (2
minutes)
o After 2 minutes check pulse. If no pulse continue
CPR 30:2 for 5 cycles. Check pulse every 2
minutes and continue CPR as needed.
o Note: If patient is intubated, give breaths every
6-8 seconds – independent of compressions.
 If pulse returns:
 Check breathing
 If not breathing: Perform rescue breathing:
o Adult: 10-12/minute (every 5-6 seconds)
o Child: 12-20/minute (every 3-5 seconds)

b. Open airway; look in mouth
i. If object seen, try to remove it.  NO BLIND FINGER
SWEEPS!
