2011. Lilly Endowment with The Louisville Institute. $15,000 grant for sociological research,
May-December 2011. Title: The Mystic on the Concrete: How People Make Life-Decisions Based
on Experiences of Divine Guidance. This has to do with aspects of religious identity formation as
well as life-decisions such as choosing careers or forming relationship networks.
2011. St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation. $500 Mini-Grant, to host a pro-bono faculty
development day for the teachers at St. Bernard’s Catholic High School.
2006-2009. Rock Harbor Foundation Grant. $90,000 to found the Catalyst Church Association
(501c3) in Arcata, CA. Unrestricted for start-up and operational costs.
2007. Hansen Family Fund Community Service Grant, $1,000.
Managed by the Humboldt Area Foundation, this grant partially funded the creation of ‘Heart
Humboldt’ day of volunteer service. Three hundred volunteers worked on 5 projects.
2001. Navigators’ Teachers Grant, Newport Harbor High School Foundation. $2,000.
Used to update computers for the high school counseling department.

Aided the assistant to the provost for Institutional Research. Collected and presented statistics
on instructors’ teaching hours, class sizes, syllabi content and grade distributions. Results were
used for university budget decisions and the WASC accreditation report.

Co-Founded a progressive and community-active non-profit.
 Developed its first annual giving program in 2011, poised to bring in $100,000 this year.
 Successfully cultivated and solicited a half-dozen constituents for gifts over $10,000.
 Started an endowment fund with the Humboldt Area Foundation to create mini-grants for
community service. Grew to $12k in its first year.
 Supervise other fundraising functions including grant-writing and event planning.
 Oversee communications, marketing, and community outreach/service projects
 Regular teaching and development of teaching team, linking teaching to core vision
 Train staff and volunteers and lead ongoing leadership development

COMMNITY SERVICE & LEADERSHIP
Cabinet for Institutional Change, Humboldt State University. Appointed by the Provost as the
grad student representative to a university task force charged with identifying critical areas for
large-scale structural change at HSU. Process was developed in response to WASC (Western
Association of Schools & Colleges) accreditation concerns. Met for 2-6 hours per week for three
semesters. Other task force members included faculty, staff, & Provost. Outcomes included a
new University Senate structure, changed enrollment practices to increase diversity, and the
creation of a department for Institutional Research. 2009-2010.
Northern California Association of Non-Profits (NorCAN), Steering Committee Member & Chair
of sub-committee for Faith & Action. NorCAN is a regional association with over 150 member
non-profits. It does lobbying and hosts an annual conference, a newsletter, a list-serve,
workshops and additional resources serving area non-profits. Regular training topics included:
Researching funding streams, grant-writing, and capacity building. 2007-2009.
Psi Chi: The National Honor Society in Psychology, Student President, Vanguard University of
Southern California Chapter. Led meetings, invited speakers, raised funds for activities and
graduation stoles. 2001-2003.
