Halloween for Hunger
This Halloween, be Hunger Heroes, and stop local hunger in its
tracks. No one should go hungry, but 870 million people around
the world do every day—some of them in our own backyard. This
Halloween, Pen High's Global Awareness team will be going door
to door collecting canned and non-perishable food items, so
please do your part in helping our community by donating at
school (box in lobby) or at your doorstep on Hallow's Eve!

Attention Grade 9 Girls interested in playing Basketball:
There will be a brief but important meeting in room 101 during the
lunch hour on Monday Nov 4th. We will discuss dates and
details about tryouts for the upcoming basketball season. If you
cannot make this meeting please come and see Mr. Hyde in room
101 ASAP.
Take a bite of BC menu items this month
include, B.C. grown chickens, parsnips, cabbage,
squash and cranberries.
Tanzania 2014 - reminder to those students traveling next
summer that we have an important meeting Tuesday, November
5th at lunch in room 310.
Senior Girls Basketball - first try-out will be Wednesday,
November 6th from 6:30-8pm.
LEADERSHIP – Grade 10, 11 & 12 Leadership meeting
November 4th & November 6th in the gym at 7:30am.
Tanzania 2014 Fundraiser! Take your best guess at the amount
of candy corn in the jar. $1 for 3 guesses. Winner takes that
candy home. All proceeds go to the Tanzania 2014 humanitarian
trip. You can find us in the common area at lunch.
Reach for the Top - Reach for the Top will resume on Halloween
(October 31st).
If you are interested in answering trivia
questions (like Jeopardy), please come to Room 304 on
Thursdays at lunch.
Smoking Cessation Group! Grade 12: Thursday Oct 31 Last
block of the day in the conference room (main office) and snacks
will be provided! If interested please pre-register with Michelle
Boehm in the counselling office during breaks/lunch.
HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST! Come to the common
area at lunch on October 31st in your costume – show it off and
win prizes!
Lakers Clothing Orders: Lakers clothing orders can be picked
up at the main office or outside the P.E office. Please see Mr.
Grant in the P.E. office if you need to check for sizes or need
some help understanding the order form. Deadline to order:
Tuesday, November 5th 3:00pm.
Grad Hoodies, Sweat shirts, and sweat pants are available
for order. Order will be submitted Nov. 7th and will be ready
for Christmas. Please submit order to the Accounting office. If
you are uncertain of size, samples will be available with Ms.
Boothman in the office.
Attention all Sr. Aboriginal Students. On Tuesday, Nov. 12th
students will have the opportunity to tour and learn about UBC
Okanagan. Students will learn about admissions, programs /
services and will have the opportunity to sit in on actual classes
taught by a professor. Lunch is provided. Please see Mr. Hyde
(rm 101) for permission form. 24 students max.
GRADS – Ralph Oslund Jewelers will be at Pen High in the
common area at lunch time on November 18 and 19, displaying
various styles of Pen High graduation rings for purchase. Stop by
and see if something catches your eye!
Important Reminder to All Peer Tutors & Sponsor Teachers:
Peer Tutors will receive their Evaluation Form for term 1, during
the last week of October. Peer Tutors have been directed to
complete the Self Evaluation and hand it to their Sponsor
Teacher(s) to complete the Evaluation. Please be sure to get
your evaluation handed in or you may not receive a mark on your
report card.
Sponsor Teachers; please help facilitate the evaluation by
reminding Peer Tutors to:

Pick up the evaluation form at the office.
•
Complete the form neatly. (Forms may be copied and
attached to report cards).
•
Hand in the completed form to Mr. Guy at the Office on
or before Wednesday, Nov. 6th
•
If a Peer Tutor does not complete the Self Evaluation,
please complete & submit the Sponsor Teachers Evaluation.
Team Hoodies: There will be an order going out for Laker’s
team members who want to order a hoodie. The Under Armour
hoodies cost $65. Come and see Mr. Grant if you need to check
sizes.

Okanagan Cosmetology Institute - 358 Main Street, Penticton
Are you interested in finding out about careers in the esthetics
industry? This includes make-up artistry, manicures, pedicures,
spa treatments and more. This half-day spotlight will allow you to
explore a potential career in cosmetology through interaction with
professionals in the field and “hands-on” opportunities. See Miss
Trovao in the Careers office (1:30 pm – 3:30 pm) for more
information.

Okanagan College Career Fair 2013: Sunday Nov. 3 10:30 3:00 KLO CAMPUS (KELOWNA)
Come to one of the Interior’s largest career fairs and meet
regional and national employers, learn about the programs
offered by Okanagan College, and enter to win great prizes. Fun
events for the whole family are taking place all day. Admission
and parking are free! College Prep 101 Presentation is at 1pm. **
Apply for any program at Okanagan College during Career Fair
and the application fee will be waived. **
Okanagan College Penticton Campus Information Night:
Wed. Nov. 20: 5-8 pm in the Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence.
The College Prep 101 presentation is at 6pm. Learn about
programs and services available at Okanagan College, and enter

DEADLINE TO APPLY: DEC. 1 2013
Any student who meets the following criteria is encouraged to
apply:
• Enrollment in their final year of high school, taking classes
during spring 2014, progressing normally toward graduation in the
spring/summer 2014, with plans to enter a post-secondary
institution in Sept. 2014
• A strong commitment to pursuing and completing a degree at an
accredited public or private post-secondary institution in Canada;
• Critical financial need ($50,000 or less net income per family is
preferred; if higher, an explanation must be provided);
• Involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
• A minimum grade percentage of 65
• Attend a high school and live in British Columbia; and
• Canadian citizenship.

TD Canada Trust Scholarship. DEADLINE: Dec. 6, 2013. They
are interested in hearing from students who have demonstrated
consistent and outstanding dedication to solve a community
problem or make their community better as a whole. For example,
you may be cleaning up the environment, promoting social
justice, or fighting child poverty. They carefully review all

contributions to their communities but also their personal
circumstances and any special challenges they may have faced

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognizes humanitarian
volunteer work. There is no set discipline students must study in
order to receive the award, but they must maintain their
academic, voluntary and career performance to a satisfactory
level. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1

RE/MAX of Western Canada 2014 Quest for Excellence
Bursary Program
The Quest for Excellence Program is a bursary program for grade
12 students in Western Canada. It was established by RE/MAX of
Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits
of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and
community contribution initiatives. Each year, RE/MAX will award
16 bursaries of $1,000 each totaling $16,000 in Western Canada.
