Google Radio Automation.
More Than Three Decades of Experience
Google Radio Automation is the industry’s only third-generation Radio Automation System. It comes from the same team that
brought you DCS, the first successful Radio Automation System, and Scott Studios, the best selling radio automation system
of all time. In all, we have 34 years of experience building the best radio automation systems - by far the most in the world.
Google Radio Automation delivers the unparalleled ease of use of SS32 and the uncompromising power of Maestro in a
single product.
Every aspect of Google Radio Automation comes from a completely new direction, including the innovative three-tier
architecture designed to deliver greater flexibility and power. The database tier is built around the industry-standard SQL
database. Our service-based back-end layer is the brains of the system, while our user interface gives you unprecedented
ease of use and flexibility.
Our unique open interface allows other systems to easily exchange data with Google Radio Automation, control it or be
controlled by it.
Unparalleled Ease of Use
Introducing Widgets
Google Radio Automation offers the most customizable user interface available anywhere.
We have broken out all of the content displayed on a screen into multiple widgets. A widget
is a software program that performs a specific function. For example, the Stack Widget displays what’s on the air now and what’s coming up. Widgets can be added, moved or removed
from the screen at-will, allowing each user the ability to personalize their interface based
on their individual needs and preferences. We’ve even added the ability to span your display
across multiple monitors.
Here are a few examples of some basic Widgets included in the system:
Stack Widget
Google Radio Automation’s stack was born out of the success and popularity of our SS32
stack. It gives you an instant view of what’s on the air currently and what’s coming up. The
stack has big, easy-to-read letters and labels, all color-coded to differentiate various types of
audio.
To play an item, just press the item’s green arrow. To stop the item on the air, press the stop
button. It’s that easy. If you want to move an item, touch that item and then touch where you
want it to go.
Library Widget
Most automation systems make you browse through very long file lists to find the song or
commercial that you want. Google Radio Automation saves you time by leveraging Google’s
advanced search experience. Simply use our intuitive on-screen keyboard to spell out a few
letters of the title, artist, advertiser name, jingle, or other audio file that you’re looking for
and the results are displayed instantly.
Recording and Voice Track Widget
You’ll especially enjoy the way Google Radio Automation brings all of your recording needs
together in one place. The Recording Widget configures itself automatically based on what
you want to do. If you want to make a simple recording, Google Radio Automation displays
only the controls you need for recording. When you want to do a voice track, the Recording
Widget automatically reconfigures the display for voice tracking.
Hotkey Widget
Hotkeys are buttons on the screen that, when pressed, instantly perform a specific task.
They can play audio, start recordings, control switchers and more. Google Radio Automation
gives you the flexibility of displaying an unlimited number of hotkeys. Easily control the size
of your hotkeys by adjusting the number of hotkeys per page. The fewer hotkeys displayed at
one time, the larger they’ll be.
Unmatched Flexibility and Integration
Customize or Build Your Own Widgets
Google Radio Automation is the only system in the world that lets you add custom widgets
to the automation system. Custom widgets can be used to tightly integrate other pieces of
broadcasting equipment or other computer programs with the automation system. Armed
with our industry standard Application Programming Interface (API), third-party vendors, independent consultants or programmers on your own staff can create widgets for Google Radio
Automation that can provide tight integration with other programs and/or address special
needs and requirements.
Here are a few examples of some powerful custom widgets that are available today:
Interface to MusicMaster
Google Radio Automation has enhanced functionality when used with MusicMaster for
Windows. For example, changes made to the music playlist in MusicMaster are immediately
reflected in Google Radio Automation, making file-based log transfers a thing of the past.
Google Radio Automation also tells MusicMaster automatically when each song has played
for automatic reconciliation.
The combination of Google Radio Automation and MusicMaster gives you more control over
your radio station’s programming in real time. When your announcers want to change a
song in the playlist, MusicMaster will provide a list of perfect songs that have passed your
scheduling rules. Google Radio Automation will then display the list on the screen. When the
announcer picks one of the perfect songs, Google Radio Automation and MusicMaster automatically reconcile the change, ensuring the integrity of your on-air sound.
Interface to Phone Box
Broadcast Bionics’ Phone Box Widget gives you new capabilities to manage your telephone
callers. The Phone Box Widget allows you to answer the phone and place callers on the air
directly from the Google Radio Automation screen! Phone calls can be recorded for later
playback on air, too.
SAGE Alerting Systems
Interface to Sage Endec
Using the Google Radio Automation API, Sage Endec EAS decoder has a custom application
that automatically inserts EAS broadcasts into the playlist, ensuring that they are broadcast
legally, in the required timeframe, and that no commercials are interrupted.
Interface Directly With Other Systems
Google Radio Automation also offers unmatched opportunities for integrating our backend
with other products and systems via our industry-standard API which allows access to the
playlist engine, the inventory engine, the notification engine and more.
For example, your business development team may want to build a custom inventory management system. Using the API, the inventory management system can query or manipulate
the automation inventory engine. Similarly, the same system could query or manipulate the
playlist engine for scheduling or reconciliation.
For your security, the API is only available in your internal network. It gives you all the power
you need to extend the automation in custom ways never before possible.
Interface with Consoles and Switchers
Google Radio Automation interfaces with consoles and switchers through an innovative plugin architecture that makes it easy to add or update support for new broadcast equipment at
any time.
Front-office Features
Playlist Management
Just export your music and traffic logs and Google Radio Automation will automatically import and merge them. In case of a problem, Google Radio Automation
sends email notifications to your staff so the problem can be fixed before it hits
the air. The system uses a world-standard SQL database to manage your playlist
data, featuring real-time collaboration capabilities to make management of your
playlists easier than ever before. If you change a playlist from an office, the
changes are instantly displayed in the control room and vice versa.
Playlist Editor
Google Radio Automation Playlist Editor can be installed on any computer in your
radio station, and lets you make any change to your playlists. With a VPN connection, you can manage your playlists from any computer in the world. You can even
see which item is currently airing!
Best of all, Playlist Editor is compatible with Mac, Linux and Windows.
Reports
Monitoring Google Radio Automation from anywhere is easy with our web-based report
generator. Generate reports for traffic and music reconciliation or learn about upcoming
problems or past performance from any computer in your station or externally with a VPN
connection.
Configuration
Google Radio Automation is configured through an intuitive program that you access via a
web browser, eliminating the need to walk from studio to studio to configure your system.
You can easily configure your system from any computer in your radio station, or with a VPN
connection, from any computer in the world!
Workflows
Google Radio Automation’s powerful workflows feature lets you tell the system exactly how
you want your radio station to be operated.
Automate any or all of your broadcast day with precision. Configuration of network captures
and delay, broadcasting network programming, and other automated functionality are greatly
simplified for even the most non-technical users.
Expand your station’s revenue potential.
Google Radio Automation natively supports Google AdSense for Audio, an automated way
for you to supplement your revenue by making your radio station’s ad inventory available
to thousands of new advertisers that can’t easily reach you today. The AdSense for Audio
network offers:
• Real-time inventory matching
We match ads to your inventory as it becomes available.
• Automation and Control
You get air-ready ads automatically - and can still review spots before they air.
Podcasting
Podcasting is automatic and easy with Google Radio Automation! Say goodbye to
complicated RSS editing, manual recording, editing and uploading. Google Radio
Automation’s revolutionary podcasting feature works by remembering what you
broadcast, instead of merely recording what you broadcast.
Just put markers in your playlist telling Google Radio Automation when you want a
podcast to begin and end. Google Radio Automation will automatically skim your microphone and remember everything the DJ plays, even hotkeys or other impromptu
items.
Once the podcast is captured, Google Radio Automation can automatically publish
your podcast or hold it for approval. You can add, remove or replace items in the
podcast. Adding podcast-only commercials has never been easier.
Sharing Content
Content Search and Sharing
If your company has stations in multiple markets, you’ll love Google Radio Automation’s
Content Search and Sharing features.
The system lets you define “friendships” between your sites as well as rules defining the
interaction between your sites. For example, you can allow site A to send media assets to
site B, but not allow B to send media assets to A.
Sending Content Is Easy
Content Search and Sharing is available through Google Radio Automation’s Audio Finder.
Audio Finder is available throughout your station via any web browser, so you don’t have to
go to a studio to send audio.
You start by searching for the audio you want to find. Next, you choose the destination(s) and
click Send. It’s that convenient!
Finding Content is Easy, Too.
Content Search and Sharing lets you find content in your other sites running Google Radio
Automation or SS32 version 6. Just enter a few words of the title or artist or other metadata into Audio Finder and Google Radio Automation searches your sites for matching
content. When you find the content you want, Google Radio Automation can download it to
your site and even convert it to your preferred sample rate or compression type. All done
automatically.
When your site receives a media asset from another site, you can program Google Radio
Automation to automatically download and broadcast the media asset, or capture that media
asset in an approval queue until you can listen to the media asset and ensure it meets your
standards. Approval Queue helps you prevent accidental broadcast of inappropriate content.
More Great Features
Remote Voice Tracking
Google Radio Automation’s Remote Voice Tracking feature is the perfect answer when some
of your DJ’s work from home or live in other cities.
When you create a new music playlist, Google Radio Automation sends the beginning and
end of the music scheduled in the remote DJs shift to their computer, and then sends the
remote DJs an email to let them know their shift is ready. The remote DJs then record their
voice tracks and Google Radio Automation sends the voice tracks back to the radio station
for automatic broadcast. Google Radio Automation even sends a warning email to the remote
DJs when the music playlist is changed so replacement voice tracks can be recorded.
Remote Voice Tracking is simple to set up and manage from your web browser.
Importing Content
Importing content into Google Radio Automation is easy thanks to Automatic Media Asset
Importer. When a new audio file is dropped into the audio import folder, Google Radio
Automation converts and imports the audio file automatically. You can even define rules that
ensure the file is at the correct sample rate or compression type, as well as making sure that
the file is available in the correct studios. Google Radio Automation can even automatically
import files from FTP sites.
International Language Character Support
Google Radio Automation’s on-screen prompts can be displayed in your local language, and
the on-screen keyboard automatically adapts to include letters not found in English. For
example, our on-screen keyboard automatically displays ñ in Spanish mode, and has a built-in
pinyin converter for Chinese.
