French 3 and 4 Goals

FRENCH 3 AND FRENCH 4
French 3 and French 4 are taught in the same class and the same material. However for all goals and
assessments French 4 is expected to achieve higher competency.
Students will do the first 5 units of the textbook and will also be given extra readings about French
history and literature of the time period.
Year #1
Units 1-5
Unit 1 La vie scolaire and les passtemps
Unit Goal
SWBAT compare in French the education systems of different francophone countries using a review of
regular and irregular verbs, double pronouns, the passe compose of etre and avoir verbs, and
interrogative pronouns in oral and written forms.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a power point presentation about the education system in a francophone country using
double pronouns, regular and irregular verbs, interrogative pronouns and the passé compose of etre
and avoir verbs in oral and written form.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT discuss the French education system using regular and irregular verbs in oral and written form.
Unit 2 Les rapports humains
Unit Goal
SWBAT use the imperfect tense, reflexive verbs, and negatives in oral and written form to write a
description in the past.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a descriptive poem using the imperfect tense, reflexive verbs and negatives which they
will present to the class and explain its meaning.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT discuss a poem in the present tense.
Unit 3 Les Arts
Unit Goal
SWBAT compare and contrast a form of French art (music, theatre, movies, painting) using the
imperfect, passé compose tenses and subjunctive mode as well as “c’est” and “il est” in oral and written
form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a power point presentation where they will compare and contrast some form of art
according to their interest to either another French example or American in oral and written form using
the imperfect, passé compose tenses and the subjunctive mode as well as “c’est” and “il est” as well as
write a 1-2 page paper on the topic.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT use the imperfect tense and passé compose in a story in oral and written form.
Unit 4 Le monde du travail
Unit Goal
SWBAT apply in French for a job using the subjunctive mode, qui and que and ce qui and ce que in oral
and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT summarize who they are for an imaginary job interview in a francophone country by going in for
an interview conducted by the teacher and formulating their résumé use the subjunctive mode, qui and
que and ce qui and ce que.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT discuss art using the imperfect and passé compose tenses, and subjunctive mode in oral and
written form.
Unit 5 Comment se débrouille en voyage ?
Unit Goal
SWBAT create a trip to a francophone Caribbean island using the conditional tense, dont and verbs that
use “de” in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a story with pictures through a power point presentation about their imaginary trip to a
francophone Caribbean island that they would like to take, with the use of the conditional tense, dont
and verbs that use “de” and will present it to the class.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT write a resume in French.
FRENCH 3 AND FRENCH 4
YEAR 2
Units 6-10
Unit 6 L’avenir: la technologie et l’environnement
Unit Goal
SWBAT compare and contrast things in the francophone world of technology and make predictions
about the future in oral and written form using the superlative, the future tense, and in “si” sentences.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT compare and contrast things in the francophone world of technology and make predictions
about the future using the superlative, the future tense, and in “si” sentences in the form of a poster
that will be presented to the class.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT create a story using the conditional tense.
Unit 7 Les français comme ils sont
Unit Goal
SWBAT analyse in French the problem of immigration in France, using the conditional tense and “si”
sentences, quel, lequel , demonstrative adjectives in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT debate orally in French with other classmates the problems of immigration in France and
possible solutions using the conditional tense in “si” sentences, quel, lequel , demonstrative adjectives
after which they will write a summary of what they would do if they were the President of France faced
with this problem.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT discuss the world of technology in France using the superlative and future tense.
Unit 8 L’histoire de France
Unit Goal
SWBAT discuss intellectually in French a major event in French history in oral and written form using the
grammar concepts of quantity expressions, indefinite articles and pronouns, and the past conditional
tense in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT write a 1-2 page paper in French using some of the grammar concepts from the unit of faire,
faire +infinitive, avoir expressions and past infinitives about an important aspect of French history which
they will also present orally to the class.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT express the different aspects of the immigration problem using the conditional tense in “si”
sentences, quel, lequel, demonstrative adjectives.
Unit 9 L’Afrique francophone
Unit Goal
SWBAT create cultural inferences about things in the African francophone world, while using
expressions with être, the pluperfect tense, possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns in oral and
written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create cultural inferences about things in the African francophone world, while using
expressions with être, the pluperfect tense, possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns in an opinion
paragraph which will be present orally to the class.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT express things using the conditional tense and “si” sentences.
Unit 10 On s’adapte
Unit Goal
SWBAT compare and contrast the health and welfare programs of France and the US in oral and written
form using quantity expressions, indefinite articles, indefinite pronouns and the past conditional tense
and “si” sentences.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT debate orally the benefits of the health and welfare programs of France as compared to the US,
after which they will summarize their feelings about the issue, using quantity expressions, indefinite
articles, indefinite pronouns and the past conditional tense and “si” sentences
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT discuss subjects using the pluperfect tense.
