and reporting
Accenture has worked with a leading
global eyewear company to implement an
integrated planning and reporting system
based on Oracle Hyperion technology.
The implemented application provides
this company with the ability to execute
budgeting and reporting processes with
increased detail through the corporate
profit and loss, product profitability, and
cost center accounting modules. This
Oracle-based solution has resulted in
significant reductions in planning and
reporting times and budgeted expenses.
experience. The company was confident
that Accenture could help by providing the
tools it needed to:
Business challenge
Working closely with the client, Accenture
began the process of developing and
implementing a global planning solution
aimed at standardizing the budget
submission processes from each of the
company’s market and corporate entities.
After thoroughly considering the client’s
specific requirements, the team devised
an Oracle-based solution using Oracle’s
Hyperion performance management
software (Hyperion System 9 Planning
Version 9.2, then migrated into 9.3.1) and
its database management system (Oracle
Essbase and Oracle RDBMS Version 9). The
Hyperion system helps manage budgeting,
planning, financial management and
performance scorecards.
A leading global leader in the design,
manufacture and distribution of fashion,
luxury, sport and performance eyewear
possessed a disconnected systems
structure—mainly based on Microsoft
Excel spreadsheets for more than 40
global entities. This systems structure was
providing challenges for this company’s
corporate controllers and its planning
processes were inefficient and ineffective.
The company selected Accenture to
provide a solution that would enable
actual standardization, control and
variance analysis because of Accenture’s
extensive Oracle implementation skills and
comprehensive industry and technology
• Support the planning process for its
business entities
• Simplify and standardize the current
technological and application
architecture
• Design and implement a leading-edge,
Oracle-based planning solution
How Accenture helped
Accenture assisted with control model and
data model definition, corporate profit and
loss planning and implementation, user
training, integration layer implementation,
and cost center accounting planning
implementation—each phase of the project
followed Accenture Delivery Methods steps.
The teams dealt effectively with challenges
such as schedule constraints, poor
integration of data sources and longer than
expected time needed to define the control
model by retooling the project to work
around the control model complexity and
by implementing a layer of data integration
to connect the planning application.
In the face of these challenges, Accenture’s
Enterprise Performance Management
(AEPM) Solution and Accenture Delivery
Methods proved essential for ensuring
high-quality delivery standards and
meeting implementation deadlines.
Accenture leveraged its own set of
industry-specific, pre-built modules
covering complex planning, reporting and
analytical needs.
The team worked primarily at the client
site and at the Accenture Delivery Center
in Milan, Italy.
High performance delivered
The integrated planning and reporting
system that the team implemented has
provided the eyewear company with a
new control model. This system offers the
company the ability to execute budgeting
and reporting processes with increased
detail through corporate profit and loss,
product profitability, and cost center
accounting modules. By leveraging this
application, the client can control its
budget more efficiently.
The centralized planning solution—rolled
out to 250 users—provides:
Corporate Benefits
• Reporting standardization at the
corporate level (variance analysis)
• The ability to conduct profitability
analysis on a global basis in a
structured, automated manner,
eliminating manual processes and
improving data quality
With improved budgeting, planning
and reporting capabilities, the eyewear
company now can make more meaningful
business decisions for each of its global
business entities, a key driver in achieving
high performance.
