Arts Council Santa Cruz County is dedicated to helping local arts thrive. The mission
of the AC is to promote, connect, and invest in the arts in order to stimulate
creativity and vibrancy in Santa Cruz County. We envision a more vibrant Santa Cruz
County, where individual and collective artistic expression thrives and where the
arts are a valued part of all aspects of our diverse culture, economy, and everyday
life.
Guitar Teach Intern Description:
Commitment Time: Minimum of six month commitment with two to four
hours per week
Areas of Involvement: Commitment to developing supportive relationship
with guitar teach facilitators, high school teachers, and youth participants in
the Guitar Teach program.
Reports to: Guitar Teach volunteers and interns will be supervised by the
assigned Guitar Teach facilitator and Arts Education manager who will
administer tasks, give direction, and gladly answer questions.
This is an unpaid position, but college internship credit may be arranged (if
applicable).

Qualifications:





At least 18 years of age
Willingness to complete TB and fingerprint checks with the school
district
Sincere desire to help students to develop music and leadership skills
and self-expression
Ability to communicate to children openly and without judgment
Strong listening skills

Ability to establish relationships based on mutual respect
Interest in the needs and concerns of children
Practical problem-solving skills
Ability to suggest options and alternatives
Sensitivity to people of different educational, economic, cultural, or
racial backgrounds
Responsibilities:
1) Help set up classroom upon arrival
2) Clean all guitars' strings with "Fast Fret"
3) Tune guitars with a tuner (and an accompanying helpful handout, if
necessary)
4) Check student practice logs
5) Organize Guitar Teach binder
6) Encourage students! Assist them with chords while playing, role model
playing guitar and singing
