Dua requesting forgiveness
ِ ِ
And overlook our sins, forgive us and have and have mercy on
us. You are our protector so assist us against the nation of
Kaafiroon.
Our Sheikh says, Allah  gave us these words for us to make Dua. This shows that our Duas
will be accepted with certainty. When a father is upset with his son, and tells him to ask to be
forgiven, this is a sign that the father is going to accept the request for forgiveness. Similarly,
when Allah  has shown us which words to use when seeking repentance, it is definite that
Allah  will forgive us.
The first portion of the Dua is,
‫ف َعنَّا‬
ُ ‫َوا ْع‬
The tafseer of this is,
‫امح ااثر ذنوبنا‬
Wipe out the effect of our sins
This means that one is begging Allah  to wipe out the all the evidence of the sins that one has
committed. Allah  doesn’t even instruct the angels to wipe out the files but destroys it
Himself. The reason for this is that Allah  does not want the angels to speak of their favour
towards us by destroying our files.
The second portion is,
‫َواغ ِْف ْر لَنَا‬
The tafseer of this is,
‫بسرت القبيح واظهار اجلميل‬
Conceal the evil and expose the good
The last portion of the Dua is,
‫َو ْارَحَْنَآ‬
The tafseer of this is,
‫تفضل علينا بفنون االء مع استحقاقنا ابفانني العقاب‬
O Allah, favour us with favours bounties in spite of us being worthy of various forms of
punishment.
N.B. For further information on various Dua’s refer to the Kitaab titled “Masnoon Duas” which is available from

FOREWORD
Unfortunately, many people have various superstitious beliefs.
Amongst these beliefs is the belief that the month of Safr is a
month of evil and bad luck. Rasulullah  came at such a time
when the world was filled with darkness and completely
eradicated all such beliefs. It was such a time when there were
360 idols in the Ka’aba. These idols were removed and
Tauheed was imbedded in the hearts of the believers. It is
unbefitting of a Muwahhid (one who believes in the oneness of
Allah)  to stoop to such a low level where he entertains such
superstitious beliefs. Hadrat Maulana Abdul Hamid Saheb D.B
has discussed the issue of superstition and its various forms in
this Kitaab, and the great wealth of Tauheed. May Allah 
grant us the Taufeeq of acting upon these valuable advices.
Ameen!

THE MONTH OF SAFAR
The Gujrati people call or refer to it as an empty month whilst other
people regard it as an unlucky month. This is totally out of ignorance
and because we are involved in a lot of superstition, otherwise this
month is equal to any other month. The older people generally
discourage Nikahs in this month due to it being an unlucky month.
This is totally against the teachings of Islam. Any person that will
perform Nikah in this month will gain greater reward, as he is
breaking an incorrect and wrong tradition. Such a tradition is totally
against Imaan, Islam and the teachings of Rasulullah .
SUPERSTITION IS TANTAMOUNT TO SHIRK
Previously people regarded this month as an unlucky month.
Rasulullah  and Islam had come and broken this incorrect belief.
Unfortunately, this belief still lingers along with many people.
Page | 4
Undoubtedly, there are many days and months that are blessed
such as the month of Ramdaan, the evening if Jumuah etc. and
various other occasions. However, there isn’t an unlucky occasion in
our Deen. It is against the grain of Imaan to believe in any
superstition and it is tantamount to Shirk. There are various forms of
Shirk and associating partners to Allah . If a person believes that
anything besides Allah  has power is equal to believing that such a
thing is equal to Allah  in power. For example, unfortunately many
of us have this notion that if we are driving along the road and a cat
crosses then it is dangerous and an accident will occur. This is
regarded as sheer superstition. Similar to a little riddle, why did the
hen go from one side of the road to the other side? As it had some
work, so it crossed. Similarly the cat needed to cross so it had
crossed. Where has the cat got the power of causing an accident?
Allah  alone has the power of all things. All good and bad comes to
us from Allah . What has the cat got to do with that?
Unfortunately there are many so to say pious people that are
outwardly involved in various forms of Ibaadat yet they also believe
that we will receive the news of the death of someone because the
cat has meowed at night. What has the meowing of the cat got to do
with the life and death of somebody? Life and death is totally in the
hands of Allah  which is mentioned in various parts of the Quraan
and Hadith that Allah is the giver and taker of life. A person believes
in Tawheed and knows the pure teachings of the Quraan and
Rasulullah , then how can one have the slightest notion that the
meowing of the cat is connected to death after fourteen hundred
years. The meowing of the cat perhaps got to do with its mating etc.,
what has that got to do with life and death?
Page | 5
UNLUCKY NUMBERS
Similarly, there are people that believe that certain numbers are
regarded as unlucky such as the number thirteen. There is no such
thing as in our Quraan or Hadith. Having such beliefs reflect towards
the weakness of our Imaan. The more we go out in Jamaat, give
talks on Imaan, listen to talks on Imaan, make an effort on our
Imaan, we take Bay’at to a Sheikh and follow his Tarbiyat and
teachings, then will a person firmly believe that everything happens
by the will of Allah . When a person will give more and more
Dawat of Imaan claiming that everything happens by the will of Allah
, then these superstitious beliefs will gradually leave our lives.
EFFORT ON IMAAN
Together with superstition is coupled fear. A person that has
superstition has fear all the time upon him. The poor man or lady
who heard the cat meowing at night cannot sleep due to the fear he
is experiencing. The temperature of the person rises and he starts
thinking, who is going to pass away. Is it my wife or my brother? He
can’t sleep simply because the cat has meowed and his health is
disturbed. This is due to the weakness of one’s Imaan. A person with
Imaan has no worry whatsoever. So, it is absolutely necessary that
we make an effort and strengthen our Imaan, and dispel these fears
and superstition from our lives as I had explained that this is
equated to Shirk in a way. Shirk is such a sin which Allah  will
never forgive. For this we should have Kitaab reading in our homes
regularly, recitation of Quraan should take place, ladies should
attend the ladies programme and listen to the talks of Imaan. It is
mentioned in the Hadith,
Page | 6
‫ال عدوى وال طرية وال هامة وال صفر‬
There is no contagiousness in diseases, no bad omens, no bad luck
in an owl and no bad luck in the month of Safar.
As Muslims we should dispel all such believes and our lives will
become much better. There are many practices that are still found
in our people. There were many things attributed to the month of
Safr during the days of ignorance. Amongst the various things
attributed to the month of Safr, this month is regarded as an empty
month. There is no Barakah and goodness in it, and many of these
beliefs have filtered through to us as well.
For a Muwahhid, one who believes in the oneness of Allah  and
recites the Kalimah, claiming that there is no other diety besides
Allah , no power except Allah , how can he stoop to such a low
level? We are all aware of the word superstition and we all know the
meaning. If only, the reality of this can register in our minds.
WHAT IS SUPERSTITION?
The likeness of superstition is similar to a rumor (i.e. something that
just goes around). There is nothing whatsoever to it. If a judge is
listening to evidence and one of the parties say that they had heard
certain things, then a true judge will immediately terminate
accepting evidence and a court case is based on solid evidence. If
the judge has to drop from solid evidence and comes down to hear
say, what will the result of such a judge be? Similarly, a person that
believes in hard facts (i.e. in the oneness and Qudrat of Allah ),
and then stoops to such a level that he now believes in superstition,
then how low hasn’t he fallen. An effort has to be made in this
Page | 7
month to rid ourselves of these beliefs. These beliefs and notions
were negated in many clear Ahadith of Rasulullah .
The people during the days of ignorance had believed that there is a
snake in a person’s stomach and a person feels hungry when the
snake bites him whereas the month of Safr has got nothing to do
with this. Can we imagine, this was explained fourteen hundred
years ago when there were no x-ray machines to detect and
examine the stomach of the human being. Up to the middle ages
people believed that the earth was similar to a table top. If you go to
the edge then you will fall down whereas fourteen hundred years
ago the Quraan Sharif had discussed astronomy and the formation
of the earth stating that it is round. Allah  states,
ٍ َ‫وُكلٌّ ِِف فَل‬
‫ك يَ ْسبَ ُحو َن‬
َ
They all (sun and moon) swim within their orbits (without entering the orbits of
each other).
How beautifully has the Quraan Sharif described the formation of a
child. This was described fourteen hundred years ago when there
weren’t any saunas or x-ray machines. That Quraan is with us today.
The Hadith Sharif is with us today. It is unbelievable for a person of
such a calibre to stoop down to such a low level where he believes
in superstition. It is unbelievable and cannot be reconciled. When a
Aamil comes to our country then no Aalim, Molvi or Sufi is left out.
There are queues and lines that wait to see him. We go crazy behind
such people and these are recent cases that I am talking about. Our
knowledge, Taqwa, Tawheed, etc. is buried and we become slaves of
these people.
Page | 8
MUFTI JINN
There was a certain person that had come from Bangladesh and was
famous here. He was known as Mufti Jinn. There was hardly anyone
that didn’t visit him. He had informed the people that I travel daily
to Bangladesh teach Bukhari Sharif and return to South Africa. It is
unbelievable how gullible our people are and fell for it. One day he
came to me at the Darul Uloom and informed me that he wished to
visit England after his stay in South Africa. He requires a supporting
letter from the Darul Uloom to acquire his visa. I then told him,
“Mufti Saheb, You travel daily to Bangladesh and return, why would
you require a visa for U.K? You should undertake your journey to the
U.K. as you are totally independent of customs and visas.” These are
the types of Aamils.
A very close friend of ours was Maulana Hussein Bhayat Saheb .
This Mufti Saheb was at his residence as well. He used to switch off
the mains and make funny noises. Whilst the drama was going on,
Maulana Hussein Bhayat Saheb  went and put on the main switch.
He became very upset as all his fake drama was now exposed to the
people.
UTTERING WORDS OF SHIRK
Another person was a graduate of a Darul Uloom whom we term as
an Alim, came to our country. A few of our Alim friends had also
visited him for treatment. He used to say that the Quraan Sharif is
too weak to treat Jadu (Allah forbid). This is very common. Many say
that some Tokloshi or Sungoma has made this Jadu. It is very strong
so you have to go to a Sungoma to get it solved. This Aamil said that
Quraan Sharif is too weak and gave them Wazaa’if of the Jogi Jepal
Page | 9
to read. Our Hadrat made those Ulema that visited him renew their
Imaan by reciting their Kalimah again as they had lost their Imaan by
going to him and uttering what he instructed them to say. We don’t
even know where and how easily we are losing our Imaan. We are
quite pleased with ourselves as we are performing Salaah, fasting in
the month of Ramdaan, behaving outwardly as Muslims yet we have
lost our Imaan. You are on the way to the airport yet little do you
realise that you have lost your passport somewhere along the way.
When you reach the airport then only do you realise that you do not
have your passport. It should not be such that we realise that we
have lost our passport of Imaan when we enter our Qabr. We were
robbed of our Imaan in the world.
TIMES OF FITNA
The Fitnas that are raining upon us is like a portion of a dark night
(i.e. the darkness increases after sunset as it gets later meaning
things will get worse and not any better). When the string of a
Tasbeeh breaks the beads just keep falling one after the other. This
is the manner in which the Fitnas are descending. This is a time
where we should take stock on these matters as well.
Coming back to the Hadith Sharif which was quoted above,
Rasulullah  said that there is no contagiousness in diseases. Many
of us accept and believe that diseases are contagious. The Sahaaba
 were affected with the same doubt. They questioned Rasulullah
 regarding a camel that had contracted a certain disease and then
passed over this disease to other camels by remaining in their
company. This proves that the disease is contagious. Rasulullah 
said, “Where did the first camel contract its disease from?”
Page | 10
Nowadays, we tell other family members that you have passed your
flu over to me. We generally say, “Don’t use the utensils of the
family member that has a flu.” This is the case with epidemics as
well. Sometimes it is malaria, sometimes cholera, etc. If the disease
is really contagious then every person should contract the disease,
yet this is not the case. This clearly indicates that diseases afflict a
person only by the will of Allah .
Hakim Yusuf of Hekpoort used to say, “It is not the disease that is
contagious but it is our eating habits and lifestyle that is
contagious.” We commonly speak that the Indian community has
these eating habits, the indigenous community has these eating
habits, etc. Their way of life is different. Due to these different
habits, we are afflicted with certain diseases. Similarly the members
of a certain household have certain eating habits thus the various
family members are afflicted with a similar disease. This moving on
from person to person is only by the will of Allah . So the hadith
negates contagiousness in diseases.
It also seems that taking vaccines to protect yourself from diseases
is a big hoax. We had personally observed that various people that
took these vaccines were afflicted by the disease.
There is a theory that there is certain medication that prevents
womb cancer. However, those that had utilised the medication were
affected with the disease. Those that never utilised the medication
were protected from the disease. This clearly shows that whatever
happens is solely by the will of Allah .
Page | 11
BAD OMENS
The second portion of the Hadith states that there are no bad
omens. We have been given Mashwera and Istikhaara. Istikhaara is
to actually make Mashwera with Allah . A person consults with
Allah  whether he should carry out a certain action or not. If one
makes Istikhaara, Allah  will put the correct answer into one’s
heart, whether he should invest in a certain venture or not,
purchase a certain business or not, get married to a certain girl or
not. If the Arabs intended to undertake a journey or some important
work was to take place, they would fly a bird, if it flew towards the
right they would take a good omen and if it flew towards the left
they would regard it as unlucky and take a bad omen. Rasulullah 
negated all such superstitions.
The Arabs had many other similar beliefs that were superstitious.
However, if the pagan Arabs intended to undertake a journey or
some important work was to take place, they would fly a bird, if it
flew towards the right they would take a good omen and if it flew
towards the left they would regard it as unlucky and take a bad
omen. Rasulullah  negated all such superstitious beliefs. Islam has
given us Mashwera and Istikhaara to consult in our matters. If the
doctors advise that one should undergo an operation, then one
should make Mashwera with those that are acquainted in that field
and got your welfare at heart and then make Istikhaara. A person
that makes Istikhaara won’t go wrong. A person that makes
Mashwera will not be sorrowful on his actions.
Many people believe that an accident will occur if a cat had run
across the road, but the cat has done so as its Rizq and sustenance
Page | 12
was on the other side (i.e. it had seen a mouse). When a person
believes this, he has removed his belief from Allah  being the
controller and moved it over to the running of the cat. Tauheed is an
extremely great power. Regarding the power of Tauheed, Imaam
Ghazaali  states, “If a person has the greatest problem in the
world but he calls unto Allah  by the Ism-e-Aazam then his need
will be fulfilled.”
When we hear the meowing of the cat, we say that somebody will
pass away in the morning. The cat is going through childbirth and
making noises. Where has the cat got the power to kill somebody?
RUNNING DOWN A CHICKEN
A certain person was getting married so he went to an Aamil to get
some Taweez as he wanted Barakah in his marriage. The Aamil told
him to kill a black fowl. You must run down the fowl with your
vehicle. These people were living on a farm with a reasonably large
yard. The fowl is going to run for its life if you are trying to knock it
down. This person was moving around trying to kill the fowl. The
scenario was worse than the Kyalami race track. Is this for a Mumin,
an Ummati of Rasulullah , one who believes in Tauheed? What a
fool don’t we make of ourselves? This is similar to Shirk. How foolish
is Shirk? A person carves out an idol with his own hands and then
makes Sajda to it. He places food before it, yet it cannot eat. The
flies are sitting on it but it cannot do anything, yet you think that the
idol can do my work. It is the height of foolishness and idiocy when
one turns away from the laws of Allah , therefore one should
ensure that all forms of superstition are removed from a person’s
life. This will only come when a person goes into the company of the
Page | 13
genuine Ahlullah and not those Ahlullah who believe in Jadu
themselves. When our Sheikh  had a stroke then various Aamils
came to Hadrat and said that so and so made Jadu upon you. Hadrat
responded that I will not accept any treatment except the Sunnat
treatment of Rasulullah . This is the type of Sheikh that we require
in our lives, else the Mashaaikh will themselves encourage us to go
to the Aamils.
A STRANGE INCIDENT
One Sunday morning I was in my office. A doctor of a certain country
town had come to me and informed me that my mother has done
Jadu to me. These Aamils cause so many fights in the family by
accusing the mothers, aunties, etc. Many good people fall for this
and start believing it. You know that this person is not like that but
you now start believing it. Sometimes they will burn some loban and
then instruct you to look in there. They will say that you will see the
person that has done Jadu to you. When the smoke rises, the picture
that you wish to form, you will be able to form in there. Similarly,
the Musallas of many Masajid have such shapes that you are able to
form various designs from there such as dragons etc.
Similarly these Aamils instruct you to look into the smoke. The
person that you doubt will certainly appear in the smoke. Now the
person says with certainty that I am sure that my mother-in-law or
sister-in-law is making this Jadu as I have clearly seen it. The Aamil
had shown it to me. These Aamils are fraudsters and fakes. These
people advertise strange things in the papers.
Page | 14
GOOD FAMILIES FREQUENTING THE AAMILS
One Alim that is a student of ours informed me that I know these
people as I am in touch with these Aamils. You won’t believe how
many of your good women come to them. Their Imaan, respect and
honour is all looted from them. When people become desperate
whether it be for acquiring children or due some illness, then people
do the worst of things, unless the Imaan of a person is not
strengthened. These people are there to loot your money. It is not
proper to even speak of the things that are happening. May Allah 
reward and raise the ranks of Rasulullah  that when the world was
filled with darkness, he left the world with Hidayat and Noor. This
was so strong that the entire Kaa’ba was cleansed from all idols. All
forms of superstitious beliefs were removed but unfortunately
today many of us are back in the days of paganism. We should
cleanse and purify our hearts of these things else our Tahajjud
Salaah, recitation of Quraan, Duas are all contaminated like a person
throws urine in a two hundred litre drum of Zam-Zam. Many good
people that are regarded as Soofis, Tablighis, Ulema who may be
giving Bayaan that Allah  does, but eventually flock to the Aamils
when faced with difficulty.
ATTRIBUTING BADLUCK TO AN OWL
The third portion of the hadith discusses the owl. Up to this day
people take bad omens with the owl. The Hadith negates this fact
that the owl can bring a bad effect into the life of a person. When
people see owls flying at night, he fears various problems. Rasulullah
 has made a believer absolutely strong by negating these
superstitious beliefs and place your trust on Allah alone. In the
Page | 15
Quraan Sharif, Allah  states that the weakest home is that of a
spider. How strong is the spider’s web? If a fly is trapped in it then it
cannot leave. Similarly we are all trapped on the web. People spend
hours on google. Today, everyone goes to Imaam google for all their
answers to such an extent that things which are not even required
are being searched. Many good people are caught on the net. They
sit after Esha Salaah and they remain on the net for two or three
hours. They will miss their Fajr Salaah or even their Jamaat but they
will not miss their session on the net. Nevertheless, coming back to
the owl, it has no power in it whatsoever, nor does it have any bad
luck. It is merely a creation of Allah .
THE MONTH OF SAFR
Finally the hadith states that there isn’t any badluck in the month of
Safr. The marriage of Rasulullah  to one of his wives had taken
place in the month of Safr. How much Barakah was there in every
Nikah of Rasulullah . Many people say that Muharram is a month
of sorrow due to the event of Karbala. This had taken place so many
hundreds of years ago. Where can this be a month of sorrow now?
We even go a step further and regard this as part of Deen by saying
Nikah shouldn’t take place in the month of Muharram. This
ignorance we portray as knowledge. Due to this how many elderly
people when deciding a date of marriage for their children state that
Nikah should not be held in these months. The blind are led by the
one who possesses a single eye. The one that sees things in the
wrong manner also leads others in the incorrect manner. I do hope
that this is now out of our community but the old ladies used to say
that this month is very hard on the menfolk. Due to this they have a
Page | 16
prescription that one should give six eggs in charity, half a loaf of
bread, one meter of calico, etc. All these items must be given in
Sadaqah else the men will go through difficulty whereas Rasulullah
 has stated that there isn’t any bad luck in the month of Safr.
BADLUCK IN THREE THINGS
In one Hadith Rasulullah  is reported to have said that bad luck is
in three things, in a horse, in a woman and in a house. Many people
take the literal meaning and say that I had purchased my home from
a Hindu therefore there is bad luck in it. Due to the pooja done here,
we are always sickly and there are fights taking place continuously
here. This is not what is meant. The intended meaning is that if
there was any bad luck it would have been in these three things but
there isn’t any bad luck in these three things so other things will also
not contain any bad luck. This can be understood from another
Hadith wherein Rasulullah  is reported to have said, “If I had
commanded anyone to make Sajda for other than Allah  then I
would have commanded the women to make Sajda to their
husbands.” This does not mean that the women should make Sajda
to the husband. It is totally Haraam for her. What it means is that
she should be obedient to her husband to a great extent. Many
times a person buys a car and says that I am having endless
problems with this vehicle or one builds a house and then says that
the builders had built the walls skew, therefore the doors aren’t
fitting in which means that there is some Jadu. So, Rasulullah 
negated this belief.
Rasulullah  said that believing in all these things is Shirk and he
repeated himself thrice. Hadrat Abdullah Bin Masood  explained
Page | 17
that when these superstitious beliefs are common then they come
into one’s mind. At such a time, a person shouldn’t be afraid but
recite,
‫اعوذ بكلمات هللا التامات من شر ما خلق‬
I seek refuge with the complete words of Allah  from the evil which
He has created.
The thought that enters into the mind of a person is not a sin. So, if a
thought relating to superstition enters the mind of a person then it
is not a sin but one should not act upon it.
THE IMPORTANCE OF TAUHEED
A Mumin must be positive. If a person brings Tauheed in his life,
there isn’t a greater power than it as nothing can supercede and
override the true belief in Allah . We are very weak and move with
the winds like weather cocks. Many a times we travelling and then
we start discussing certain ghost incident in a certain place, and we
affirm that these things do exist. How many of these incidents are
total lies.
Imaam Ghazalli  says that one can experience the worst problems
in the world and he calls unto Allah  with isme Aazam then see
how Allah  assist and helps you. Imaam Ghazalli  says that Isme
Aazaam is to call unto Allah  in a such a manner that there isn’t
any hope in anyone else. This great power of Tauheed we have
traded it in, threw it away and placed our conviction in the running
of the cat.
Page | 18
We met one person who was a Christian, and we gave him Dawat to
Islam. He asked if there are healing powers in Islam. The church uses
a great trump card that Easa  has healing powers which is true
and the Quraan also discusses it. Easa  was able to make the
blind see and the deceased to get up from their grave. The
Christians believe that the pastor in the church also has these
healing powers. He then asked, “Are there such healing powers in
Islam as well?” I replied, “Yes, many people got their work done with
the Duas of the Buzurgs, but that is not the object.” The object is to
maintain correct beliefs. I then told him that if the pastor has
healing powers tell him to go to the hospitals and heal all the people
there. This will save the government and the people will save on
taxes. We shouldn’t be so gullible and weak. We should make an
effort to strengthen our Imaan.

Pertaining to our beliefs there is a book titled Kitaaabul-Imaan in
English which can be read. Also, Kitaab-ut-Tahaarat is available for
Masaa’il pertaining to cleanliness of the body. Similarly, we have
Kitaab-us-Salaah which consists of Masaa’il pertaining to Salaah.
Similarly, there are various other books that have been published
discussing the various aspects of Deen. If we spend half an hour in
total with the family, we can read for approximately five to seven
minutes comfortably from each Kitaab. By doing so, we will be
educated in a short while and we will easily discard these wrong
beliefs.

THE LIBRARIAN OF DEOBAND
When we were studying in Deoband there was a librarian named
Maulana Sultan Saheb. He was quite famous so people from far and
wide would come to him for treatment pertaining to Jadu and
Jinnat. He used to tell us that 99% of the cases are all fake. If a
patient is told that you are not effected by Jadu then he will find it
difficult to accept. He will think that this person doesn’t really know
his work. On the other hand when he is told that you have been
effected by strong Jadu then he becomes pleased. He has
confidence is such a Maulana and he says that this is a very powerful
Maulana. If the Maulana tells him that his Jadu is old and it is
difficult to get rid of it then he will have even more confidence in
such a Maulana. 99% of these Aamils are fake who steal the money
of a person in a very sophisticated manner. We think to ourselves
that some of them are absolutely genuine as they do not extract any
fees from us. By doing so, they are able to extract much more than
what the fees would have been. Normally the fees are two to three
hundred Rand yet when a person goes to the Aamil, he ends up
paying five hundred or even thousand Rand. At the same time, they
steal a person’s Imaan and make him believe in various incorrect
things. Thirdly, it is sad that the respect and dignity of many women
is lost in such a way that she will never expose what had occurred.
We know of certain terrible cases therefore we should never expose
our women to this. If there is a genuine need to take your
womenfolk to an Amil, then ask one of your local Ulema who should
you go to. We should never allow our womenfolk to be in seclusion
with any medical doctor or even an Aamil. You should be present
when the woman is being treated or another female should be
present. Fourthly, these Aamils cause enmity amongst people and
Page | 20
family members. These Aamils put the blame on the mother-in-law
in some instances and on the mother in other instances. They have
caused friction between a mother and her son or daughter and
broken up homes. These Aamils know exactly how to extract
information from their patients, and they then tell you things which
cause you to become surprised. We are so simple minded that they
extract the information from us and they then inform us that this is
what had happened to you. This is definitely not the work of
someone that offers treatment to anyone. These people should be
totally avoided. There is Jadu but the effect is limited. We should
also bear in mind that Jadu can only have an effect by the will of
Allah .
PROTECTION AGAINST JADU
We have been given the prescription to combat Jadu. Hadrat Hakim
Saheb Daamat Baraakatuhum says that one should recite Surah
Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq and Surah Naas three times each commencing
with Bismillah. This should be done every morning and evening
which will protect a person from the harms of Jadu and Jinnat. At
the same time, the reward of these Surahs are so great that the
reward should be passed over to the Marhooms. Another verse that
is very effective in protecting a person is Aayatul Kursi which should
be recited after every Salaah. When the Imaan of a person is weak
and his mind is weak then he thinks that he has been effected with
Jadu, yet it is not the case. Also, a person that has pride always feel
that he has been affected with Jadu. He has pride so he thinks that
people are jealous of me. The actual Jadu that is destroying us is the
television.

When Jamaats are going out in the path of Allah , the elders
advise them in the Hidaayat Bayaan that they should eat properly
and sleep properly. When one goes out in Jamaat initially then he is
overwhelmed by Jamaat so a person is busy making Tilaawat till late
at night, making Zikrullah, keeping fasts, etc. and this effects the
mind of a person. The next thing is that he claims that he is in a
certain sky meeting a certain angel or a certain Nabie or he will say
that someone has done Jadu upon him therefore certain things are
happening to him. So it is very necessary that a person eats properly
and we all do that very well, and a person should take his rest in a
proper manner.
ADEQUATE SLEEP
Regarding our sleep, many of us will sacrifice our sleep for other
things. I was so surprised to hear that people used to stay awake till
late hours just to watch the world cup. They would then take tablets
and go to work the next day. Taking chemicals and upsetting the
system is most harmful. Yes, if a person has to stay awake till late
due to a valid reason then he may do so, else one should take a
good rest as a good rest is essential for good health. When a person
doesn’t eat and sleep properly, he becomes weak and is then
attacked by Shaytaan.
Nevertheless, this is the month of Safar so we should dispel all forms
of superstition whether pertaining to the month of Safar or any
other form of superstition. We do not believe in unlucky numbers
nor do we believe that a certain time of the year is a time of bad
luck. Also, the aspect of Jadu is overplayed. Maulana Sultan of
Deoband had also mentioned to us that if a woman is tired of
Page | 22
staying with her mother-in-law then she will cook up some story and
she presents it in such a manner that everyone accepts it.
Sometimes the wife is tired of the husband and she doesn’t know
how to come out of it so she will come up with a Jadu story so that
she can be separated from the husband. The solution for our
medical problems and financial problems is performing our five
times Salaah. Generally we find problems in homes that are void of
Salaah and recitation of the Quraan. Not a single Muslim should be
staying away from recitation of the Quraan Sharif, even if it means
reciting one page or a Ruku or Quarter Para.
Unfortunately, our homes are void of Salaah and Tilaawat, yet the
TV will be viewed, music will be blasting, photography is being
displayed. When all these forms of evil are found in our homes then
Shaytaan has complete control of such a home. So an effort has to
be made to bring Deen into the home, either by encouraging the
members of the home to go in Jamaat, or encourage the family
members to perform Salaah and the importance of Deen, have
Taleem in the home and I can guarantee you that there wouldn’t be
any problem of Jadu or Jinnat in such a home to such an extent that
even medical problems will begin to disappear.
Sahaaba had Deen in their lives, so there wasn’t any room for a
doctor in Madinah Munawwarah. May Allah  grant us the Taufeeq
of building our Imaan, and we should educate ourselves as far as the
matters of Deen are concerned, and May Allah  protect us from
superstitious and incorrect ideas and beliefs. Ameen!
