The Youth Leadership Opportunity Smith County held their graduation ceremony
on April 24, 2012 at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce. The youth program
was created by the Leadership Opportunity Smith County Class of 2000 as their
class project. The class members consist of Sue Collins, Laura Piper, Melissa
Ross, Randy Holliman, Michael Nesbitt, Tom White, Lisa Ingram and Shirley Jones.
These individuals have been instrumental in seeing this project through by continuing to volunteer their time and efforts to the program.
Youth leadership Opportunity Smith County is a leadership development program
designed to provide local emerging and existing youth leaders with the tools to
develop individual leadership skills, influence their schools, and contribute to their
community. The purpose of YLOSC is to train students in leadership techniques
and community awareness so that they may become familiar with current issues,
community resources, opportunities, and other factors influencing the direction of
Smith County’s future. It is up to our youth to carry Smith County into the future
and what it becomes is in their hands.
Youth leadership has prospered because of the continued support of both high
schools, the Smith County Dept. of Education, the leadership alumnus, Smith
County Businesses and Smith County Government. We simply could not provide
this program without their support. It is very much appreciated.

Cartwright Catering owners Vicki and Ted Russell
Cartwright Catering
Cartwright catering is a family owned and operated
business specializing in country favorites such as tender roast beef with gravy and vegetables; succulent
baked chicken, smoked barbecue and much more.
Our aim is to take the hassle and worry out of your
next event by providing a savory and satisfying meal
with stress-free service that leaves you free to concentrate on your guests. Whether you are hosting a tea,
shower, rehearsal dinner, wedding, ladies luncheon,
holiday party, reunion, banquet, dinner party, or corporate event we can cater to your needs. You can depend on us for professional, courteous service, delicious meals, and a friendly, helpful staff. We serve
Smith County and the surrounding areas.
How did Cartwright Catering get their name? Where is
Cartwright? It is in the beautiful area of Upper Defeated Creek. In the northeastern corner of Smith County,
is the home to the Cartwright-Russell Farm, founded by
James Cartwright in 1932. The Cartwright’s were
among the eighteenth century settlers of Middle Tennessee. Tobacco, cotton, corn, hay horses, cattle and
swine were the crops and farm commodities. The farm
changed hands several times among family members
throughout the twentieth century. In 1989, Ted and
Vicki Russell purchased the land from his aunts and
uncles. Desiring to keep alive the Cartwright name in
Smith County and honor the legacy of this hardworking family, gave their new business the name
Cartwright Catering in 2006. The catering business is
housed in a small farmhouse on a part of the original
1832 Cartwright-Russell Century Farm. Contact info:
