After reading your company brochure and researching Smith Paper Company, I became quite interested
in the possibility of a cooperative education opportunity this coming summer. I noted on your website
that you have a co-op program, and I would very much like to have a co-op opportunity in the paper
industry. I have enclosed my résumé for your review.
As a chemical engineering student, I have a wide range of experiences that I feel will meet your summer
internship needs. My academic coursework provides a technical background in fluid flow, heat transfer,
thermodynamics, and basic stoichiometry, as well as practical experience in each of these engineering
fundamentals. Additionally, I have had experience working at PennDOT as an engineering intern. This
work experience, although not chemical engineering-related, enabled me to obtain the following types
of experience:
 Leadership of a contracted work crew consisting of 15 laborers
 Troubleshooting daily process issues and creating plans for issue resolution
 Responsibility for the safety of work crew and the general public
 Effectively communicating with a cross-section of employees, from operations to upper
management
 Project budgeting and planning
