publishers’ office
we look for places where god is moving— in the world, in
the church, in individuals’ lives—and come alongside our authors
to create unique and powerful books that support their ministries
and messages.
We bring to the task all of our resources as one of the largest
privately owned Christian companies, and a highly focused and
hardworking team with decades of publishing experience.
We publish books that are intelligent, thoughtful, and finely crafted—
but not pretentious, condescending, or out of reach: conversationstarting books that take on real life from a Christian perspective.
Practical books that speak to specific needs. Big-idea books.
Compelling personal stories and life messages.
“I choose to bring authors to Tyndale
Momentum because I’ve seen how the team
really gets behind the mission of each book.
They are committed not only to producing a
successful book, but to the larger purpose of
partnering with authors and helping them to
communicate their message. I know the
people at Tyndale Momentum, I trust them,
and I love that they take a personal interest
in each author every step of the way. And I
know that when I bring an author to
Tyndale Momentum, that author is going to
be well cared for—and so is the book.”
This is why we’re Tyndale Momentum.

In her role as publisher, Jan leads the Tyndale Momentum team, drawing on
extensive publishing experience as both an author and editor, as well as her
background in radio and television, public relations, and fund-raising. In addition
to acquiring a number of Tyndale Momentum titles each year, she oversees the
development and marketing of each book published by the division. Jan loves
working with authors and agents to find the best book in a good idea. She also
enjoys collaborating with colleagues in developing books and bringing them
to the marketplace. Jan loves publishing books that both touch the heart and
stimulate clear thinking. Her acquisitions include a number of New York Times
bestsellers, such as The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven by Kevin and Alex
Malarkey; Quiet Strength, Uncommon, The Mentor Leader, and The One Year
Uncommon Life Daily Challenge by Tony Dungy with Nathan Whitaker; Son of
Hamas by Mosab Hassan Yousef; Bringing Up Girls by Dr. James Dobson; The
Cause within You by Matthew Barnett; and The Devil in Pew Number Seven by
Rebecca Alonzo. Jan has also published such conversation-starting books as
Revolution by George Barna, Jim & Casper Go to Church by Jim Henderson and
Matt Casper, and Unplanned by Abby Johnson. In addition to general nonfiction,
Jan acquires and develops books for BarnaBooks, a series of titles published in
partnership with renowned author and researcher George Barna, giving voice to
some of the latest thinking on today’s church and culture. She also publishes
books within Tyndale’s highly successful One Year devotional line. Jan and her
husband, Paul, have two children—a son in college and a daughter who is a
young professional in her 20s.
This is why I believe in the power of books to transform hearts, minds, and
lives: because they’ve changed mine.

communications
If you visit Tyndale and stay around for any length of time, you’ll
probably hear someone refer to the “Tyndale family.” There is a
reason “family” goes with Tyndale.
Just as Dr. Kenneth Taylor was committed to inviting readers into
the Father’s heart through biblical literacy, the goal of Tyndale
Momentum is to make sure authors know they are valued members
of the Tyndale Momentum family. We acquire books that we’re
passionate about, from writers we believe in. We strive for excellence
in every aspect of the publishing process to ensure that the finished
book meets (or even better, exceeds) the author’s hopes. Above all,
our first priority is to be available to encourage, pray for, and assist
authors as partners in a shared pursuit to offer Jesus to readers, as
he uniquely appears through the message of their books.

There has never been any life path for me that didn’t involve working with books
in some way. I always knew my dream was to help make good books happen,
and I’ve been fortunate enough to have various professional opportunities to do
that. Yet being part of the Tyndale Momentum team surpasses even my highest
expectations. Between my colleagues and authors, I am surrounded on all sides
by intelligent and talented people who are highly motivated and full of integrity.
I learn something every day; and I am encouraged, challenged, mentored, and
inspired every day. (I also laugh with these people. A lot.) This is why I choose to
be here, at Tyndale Momentum, over anyplace else.
katie fearnley
Katie Fearnley joined Tyndale in 2011. She has always loved books, which is why
she spent the previous 13 years working at her local library. As an acquisitions

drives the processes for QR codes, discussion guides, and cross-promos. Katie
holds a bachelor of arts degree in English writing from North Central College.
I love when I hear about how a book has made a difference in people’s lives.
The Bible says to “work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the
Lord rather than for people” (Ephesians 6:7), and although I’ve always tried
to keep this message in my heart, it’s such a blessing to have the everyday
reminders of how God us using our work for his purpose. This is why I’m glad
to be a part of Tyndale Momentum.

“My favorite thing about the Tyndale
Momentum team is that they treat me not
like a commodity, but like a fellow traveler
on an exciting Christian journey. They
understand how much work it takes to
conceive and finish a book, but along the
way, they never stop dishing out support.
Always in the right amounts. Always the
right ingredients. Also, they embody the
word team. And everybody’s on board.
The entire team is smart, strategic, and
savvy about publishing, launching, and
marketing a book. But best of all, they’re
Spirit-led. Thus, they know the book life
is not just about the destination—it’s the
journey. It’s a privilege to share the ride.”

marketing
Innovative, creative, connected
For the Tyndale Momentum marketing team, one of the most valuable
ingredients for success is author input. Getting to know our authors
is fundamental to all of our plans and initiatives. Why? Because to
achieve the outstanding results we aim for, each marketing effort
must take into account each author’s unique style and message. Our
seasoned marketing team considers the author a valued partner, as
together we mine opportunities to reach the right readers. With each
project, we strive to collaborate with publicity, marketing, and sales
experts, internally and externally, to create the buzz that leads to an
outcome where God is glorified through the success of each book.
nancy clausen
As senior director of marketing, Nancy leads the team that moves Tyndale
Momentum books from acquisition to retail, and then into the hands of readers.
Her desire to make a difference became obvious soon after her graduation
from California State University at Fullerton when, after a move from Southern
California to rural Georgia, she started the public relations department at Habitat
for Humanity International. There she worked with former president Jimmy Carter
on house-raising projects for low-income families across the country. At Tyndale
since 1999, Nancy’s passion has been putting quality Christian books into the
hands and minds of the readers who need them. She has led Tyndale Momentum’s
marketing team on a number of bestselling cross-market projects.
Every day, I get to apply my marketing skills to something that’s greater than
myself. To something the Lord will use to help people. Most marketers work
on selling more “widgets,” so the fact that the products I’m marketing change
lives for the better, bring readers closer to their Creator, and possibly even help
save lives, is incredibly satisfying and motivating. This is why I’m so blessed to
do what I do at Tyndale Momentum.

Wilton Industries. At Tyndale since 2006, Yolanda has a zeal to market Tyndale’s
ministry-driven books and has been instrumental in launching many of Tyndale
Momentum’s New York Times bestsellers. Yolanda constantly explores innovative
marketing ideas to extend the reach of Tyndale Momentum books to new audiences
of believers and seekers everywhere.
It’s a blessing and privilege to help others learn more about Christ through books
and curriculum. Everything I do for my authors and their books—advertising
campaigns and publicity strategies—contributes to Kingdom-building, each and
every day. This is why!

Their Christ-centered vision guides all the steps of the publishing process.”

Deception and Making the Best of
a Bad Decision and senior pastor

“When I won the 2009 New York City Marathon, my longtime dream came true. Following
this achievement, Tyndale House Publishers gave me an opportunity to make another
dream come true—to share my story in the form of a book. Despite the tight timeline for
the project, everyone at Tyndale worked to make it an enjoyable and productive process.
Just like training for a marathon, challenges do arise in writing a book, but if you have
a committed and positive team, you will reach your goals. With the committed, positive,
and faithful team at Tyndale House Publishers, my dream came true, and I know this
team is working on making many more dreams come true.”

what others have said
“My every exposure to Tyndale House during this process has been impressive. After
decades of working with a wide variety of publishers, I had developed some pretty low
expectations. But Tyndale has only pleasantly surprised and delighted me at every
phase.”

Speaker, media consultant, and
coauthor of Paul Harvey’s America
“I've been greatly impressed by the professional team spirit and very supportive attitude
shown by everyone at Tyndale. I'm very thankful to be working with people who care so
much about the book, its author, and its readership. This is what a publishing house
should be like!”
dr. michael ward
Author of The Narnia Code and
chaplain of St. Peter’s College,

“Tyndale is the best publisher I’ve ever worked with. From start to finish, every single
person on the Tyndale Momentum team demonstrated a high degree of professionalism
and dedication. They pulled together and worked extraordinarily hard to meet some very
difficult deadlines, and when the book was published, developed creative marketing
strategies to promote the book. Any author would be fortunate to have the opportunity to
publish with Tyndale Momentum.”

tyndale momentum bestsellers
Ever since 1972, when The Living Bible became an international bestseller, Tyndale
nonfiction authors have appeared regularly on national bestseller lists. The Tyndale
Momentum team has continued to hit the lists with all of Tony Dungy’s books, including
Quiet Strength, Uncommon, The Mentor Leader, and his latest release, The One Year
Uncommon Life Daily Challenge. New York Times bestsellers include Dr. James Dobson’s
Bringing Up Girls, Kevin Malarkey’s The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven, Mosab Hassan
Yousef’s Son of Hamas, Matthew Barnett’s The Cause within You, and, from debut author
Rebecca Alonzo, The Devil in Pew Number Seven.
But what motivates, challenges, and fuels our excitement about belonging to the world of
life-changing ideas is the knowledge that there are new voices waiting to be discovered who
will also achieve the recognition our more renowned authors already possess.

frequently asked questions
1. how many names may i submit for my vip/
key influencer list—people who will
receive a complimentary copy of my book
in hopes they will review it and create
positive buzz?
schedule, others a quarterly schedule. If your contract
is semiannual, the first royalty period will close June
30, and the actual statement and check (if any is due)
will arrive in late September. The second royalty period
will end on December 31, and you can expect the
statement (and check) to arrive in late March. If you
have a quarterly schedule, the periods are as follows:
Generally we will send out 50 copies, but we can send
more if you know people who will get the word out
about your book. Give the communications or
marketing manager a call to discuss.
• January through March—statement and check will arrive
in June
2. do the books sent to my vip list earn
royalties?
• April through June—statement and check will arrive in September
No. Books sent out for promotional purposes and books
that you order at your author discount are non–royalty
bearing.
• July through September—statement and check will arrive in December
3. is there a certain background color
that works better for author photos that
are used on the book’s back cover?
Tyndale’s Design department recommends a mediumgray background.
4. am i allowed to express any of my
thoughts about the cover design?
While the final decision for cover design lies with
the publisher, the author’s feedback is given serious
consideration.
5. how do i find out how my book sales are
going?
You may call or e-mail the communications manager.
Important information you might want to consider . . .
When your book is first released, it is difficult to
know how many actual sales are taking place. We
have two sales descriptors: sell-in and sell-through.
Sell-in refers to the number of books that were sold to
booksellers. The sell-through figure is the number of
books that sell through to end users. Booksellers can
return books to the publisher, so sell-in numbers and
sell-through numbers can differ in the beginning of the
book’s launch. Royalties are calculated based on the
sell-through figure. Ultimately, the sell-through figure
equals the sell-in number after all of the returns have
been processed.
6. once my royalty advance is repaid, how
soon can i expect to receive a subsequent
royalty check?
This varies, depending on your contract. Royalty
reports are sent according to the terms set in the
book contract. Some contracts stipulate a semiannual
• September through December—statement and check will arrive in March
7. what if i don’t understand how the
royalty statement should be read? is there
someone i can speak to?
Sometimes these are difficult to read. If you have
problems, you can begin by calling or e-mailing the
communications manager. If she can’t answer your
questions, she’ll get you to someone who can.
8. what is the best (fastest, most efficient,
etc.) way to order books?
It is always best to e-mail your order to authororders@
tyndale.com. The reason this is the best way is that
even if the author-designated customer service
representative is out of the office, any e-mail that
comes to that address is checked every day and
answered. This can be important if you have a rush
order or if you want to get the best shipping rate. You
may also call the 800 number (800 -323-9400) and ask
for Customer Service. When they pick up, ask for the
author representative. It also is helpful if you know your
account number, which you will receive when your “first”
book is sent to you. But if you don’t know your account
number, the representative can look it up. You can also
call the communications manager, and she will give it
to you for your records.
9. is there a place (or person) for me to
mention if i have another book proposal?
or should i wait to be asked?
No, you do not have to wait to be asked if you have a
great book idea! The best place to start the discussion
is with the associate publisher, but any book team
member can begin the process. Generally speaking,
book proposals will be reviewed and evaluated based
on previous book sales, but that is not the only criteria.

10. are authors encouraged to visit
tyndale for a tour? if so, can they
purchase discounted books there?
the schedule for upcoming conventions
is as follows:
We love hosting author visits! Please let us know if you
are coming to the Chicago area, and we will arrange
for a tour and a face-to-face meeting with the Tyndale
employees involved in producing your book. If you want
to purchase books during your visit, we can arrange
that too.
2012: orlando, july 15-18
2013: st. louis, june 23-26
11. if i want to purchase tyndale books
other than my own, how do i do that? do i
get any discounts?
2015: orlando, june 28–july 1
Yes! Just like ordering your own books, the best way
for you to order other Tyndale products is to e-mail
authororders@tyndale.com. As a Tyndale author, you
receive 50 percent off the retail price of any Tyndale
product for as long as your book is in print.
12. how will i know what was done with
my book from a publicity and marketing
perspective?
Your marketing manager will send you ad placements
via e-mail and your publicist will let you know when your
book has received a review. Additionally, four months
after the release of your book, the communications
manager will send out an e-mail with a spreadsheet
summarizing activity related to your book.
13. is there a christian booksellers
convention? can you tell me about it?
There is a national Christian booksellers convention
called the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS).
It takes place annually in the summer months, normally
in June or early July. If your book releases in the
summer or fall season, it will be highlighted and
promoted at ICRS. The convention location changes
from year to year, and the format has also changed
quite a bit over the last several years in terms of
numbers of exhibitors, attendees, and book sales. In
past years, major media were present for the purpose
of requesting author interviews. However, with recent
advances in technology, the number of attending media
has been greatly reduced. For that reason, Tyndale
does not feel it is necessary for authors—or even the
entire book team—to attend the conference. But if
the convention is near your home, and you’d like to
attend, let the communications manager know. We
would be happy to reserve a badge for you and schedule
an appointment for you to meet with any members of
the book team who will be attending. Normally, the
communications manager will contact authors who live in
the area of the convention to see if they have any desire
to attend the show.
