RIDE FOREVER
Keep your people safe on the road to work
Why is ACC talking to employers about motorcycle safety?
Obviously every employer has a responsibility to try and look after the wellbeing of their people.
And chances are many of your staff ride to work on a motorcycle or scooter, so it’s in everyone’s
interests to keep them safe on the road to work and back every day.
After-all, statistically speaking - 1 in every 20 of your employees who ride a motorcycle will be
injured in a crash this year. And if they have to take time off work to recover, they may be off the
job for a long time. The average ACC motorcycle injury claim for weekly compensation is 196
days – that’s an average of over 6 months off work!
That’s why ACC is working with employers to help their people get to work (and home again) in
one piece. We don’t want them to stop riding, we just want them to be safe while they’re at it.
What can you do to help keep your people safe on motorcycles?
The most effective way to keep motorcyclists safe is to take them out on their bike and teach
them the skills they need to handle any hazard that the road could throw at them. To do that,
ACC developed the Ride Forever motorcycle training programme which is designed to improve
the riding skills of any bike rider, regardless of their level of skill or experience.
For employers, we have developed simple resource packs you can use to promote
Ride Forever in the workplace as a straight-forward, ‘ready to go’ health and safety initiative.
The packs provide posters and flyers you can put up in workplaces and staff areas, and we
can also provide information you could send out in staff email announcements or insert into
a staff newsletter.
So what is Ride Forever?
Ride Forever is a world-class motorcycle training programme designed to improve the skills of
any bike rider with a range of courses tailored to suit all levels of riding experience.
Ride Forever offers riders four levels of training:

Urban Commuter is aimed at riders using scooters, mopeds or lower cc rated
motorcycles and is designed to give them the skills they need for riding in urban
environments and traffic

Bronze is aimed at newer riders or as a basic skills refresher. It also supports riders on a
learners licence to progress on to their restricted licence

Silver is perfect for more experienced riders who want to hone their riding skills and build
on their knowledge by learning more advanced techniques. For riders on a restricted
licence it also helps them gain their full motorcycle licence

Gold training suits skilled, trained riders who want an expert eye to fine tune their riding.
The course can be customised to suit their needs and riding style from a menu of
advanced skills modules.
The training takes a half day for Urban Commuter, and a full day for Bronze to Gold level
courses. The training is delivered by some of New Zealand’s most expert riders and instructors,
and costs just $20 (for Urban Commuter and Bronze level) up to $50 (for Silver or Gold levels).

improving road safety. At least 70% of each course is delivered on the road using the riders own
bike. This way they complete the training with practical and relevant skills and a better
understanding of their bikes capabilities.
What’s the cost?
Promoting Ride Forever costs nothing – and keeping your staff safe on the road may save you and your
business a lot more. Our promotional material packs are provided free. Any of your staff who want
to do a course will register on our website and pay the training provider the $20-$50 fee directly.
However, some employers also choose to fund Ride Forever training to motorcycle riding staff
as a standard part of their suite of employee benefits and induction. It’s up to you whether you
choose to simply promote Ride Forever, or go further to pay for staff training, but at only $20 to
$50 per employee trained, it’s an inexpensive option if your business wishes to do this.
