Camporee WZA Activity Sign-­‐up Units are needed to take responsibility for activities. If you sign-­‐up, you will be responsible for pulling together the equipment and staffing the station, although we will be asking other troops (not running activites) to help, so will work to deploy additional staffing as you sign up. The below are some of the recommended survival skills we need. What do you have expertise and interest in? We can only have as many activities as there is staff to support. Staff are the only ones who can wear the Camo WZA shirt – you have to buy it, but you can wear it and be proud that you are helping to make this event possible. Activity Day of the Walking Bread Zombie Shuffle Slackline Hatchet Range First Aid Exercise Materials Description/Notes Slow obstacle course. • 3 balance beams, • Rope (attach bells or something so make noise if hit) • hay bales, • bread roll (one for each scout) • Wood rounds for balance. • Slack line • wood rounds • Zombie Crew 2525 has a slack line and can staff this. Description Zombies are not very coordinated, so moving quietly over obstacles is another survival advantage. In this training event, you are challenged to move through the obstacles while balancing a bread roll on the back of your hand. If you can do that, you can surely get by any zombie group with your stealth. Keep up your strength – peanut butter and jelly are excellent refueling choices. Zombies never work together. A survival advantage of humans is we can work together. Two scouts work and see if they can both get safely across the line. One scout is on the slack line, and one can jump between wood rounds. This takes balance and teamwork. Oh – and staying calm under pressure, since as soon as you are half way across a simulated zombie will start chasing you. After all, you need to know just how these things move and also to stay calm under pressure. • Approved hatchet range Let’s face it, when the Zombies arrive, you will (combine range area with use ANYTHING to fight them off. Signaling & Towers Camp Defense – •
Materials (discuss) practice first aid response in a simulated zombie attack. Luckily they move through quickly, but they leave behind injured victims. It’s up to you and your fellow Scouts to administer First Aid. If you don’t do a good enough job, then they will all die and be re-­‐
animated as Zombies! You need to navigate and NOT get lost in the Zombie infested woods. There are dangers lurking in those woods! The various components you need for defense and first aid have been stashed by Boy Scouts preparing for just such an event – on known points on the map. Can you find the supplies you need and survive? If you can’t find a gun to defend yourself, the next best thing is to be able to use materials at hand to take out the Zombies, but you have to make sure you can hit them in the head -­‐ everyone knows that to kill a Zombie you have to hit it in the brain! It’s time to practice now, before the Zombies get here. The Zombie Apocalypse has started and the world is in chaos. Your patrol needs to get some place safe and NOW. Luckily, there are helicopters flying all around you but they don’t see your patrol. Signal a S.O.S. in Morse code to a helicopter using a signal mirror. Make visual signs so that a helicopter knows where it can land to pick you up. What other ways could you signal for help? Can you get a message across camp using signal flags? Zombies are attracted to noise – so learning to be quiet and communicating silently is critical for survival. Practice your signaling as well as lashing a platform that will put you higher than at least the shorter zombies. Hand signals are also useful – and depending on the training personnel available, learn basic signs to communicate danger, directions, and coordinate your unit without sound. Staff In defense camouflage. Given directions, direct the camp, zombie defense training, etc. Serve as training exercise. Rules need to be clearly outlined. Need Zombie Training staff (experts) for this. Also, this team would be responsible for general zombie deployment in woods as well, zombie make-­‐up, and zombie actor training. Zombie drill Rope Making Definition in packet of a defendable, non-­‐zombie camp. Campfire Theme zombie or survival. Run the campfire Fire making (no match) Fire making supplies; Teach fire making. Save Others – Bring a Friend Everybody can do this! Bug Out Bag Teach how to put together a 72 hour survival kit. but now we need to fortify it to protect against the oncoming Zombie Hordes! Make sure you know your knots and lashings, as they are the only thing between you and the Zombies! Rope is in short supply; luckily there you can learn how to make this in camp. Staff have experience with zombies and will be able to teach the Scouts how to stay alive. If Zombies are in the area, the signal flags will indicate this with warning sign. At this signal, minimize noise and quick movement. If zombies are near or in camp, the signal towers will show the “zombie” flag. We will have a safety drill for this procedure. All units should secure in your unit barrier. If a zombie holds on to you for 2 seconds, you are infected and must go to the medical tent. You may turn into a zombie. Remember, the Western Zombie strain is slow moving but is attracted to noise. If a fellow scout is stranded outside a barrier, you can sometimes distract the zombie and save them. Team work is critical. Laughing at danger is important for survival in difficult times. The whole camp will meet and celebrate new zombie skills, and units provide their best zombie and survival inspired entertainment. Zombies are drawn to electric light – but very much dislike fire. Learn to make fire more than one way to be sure you always can bring light to any zombie situation. Due to the fun and exciting nature (and general survival factor) of this Camporee, we are highly encouraging all Scouts to BRING A FRIEND!! The more people the safer everyone will be from the Zombie Horde When the zombies arrive, you may not have much notice. Be ready to “Bug Out” by learning how to make a survival kit you can grab and run. Bozeman Hawks home game – Friday – let campers know you can set up and leave to attend the game.
