GUIDELINES – BASED ON UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN ONTARIO
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Scholastic Records:
 To be eligible for admission to Dentistry, applicants must be in the final year of, or have successfully completed, an undergraduate degree program leading to a four-year undergraduate degree at a recognized university.
Applicants in this category are advised that the following courses are mandatory: at least 0.5 laboratory course in
organic chemistry and at least 0.5 course in biochemistry, and 1.0 course in human or mammalian physiology. It is
to their advantage to have successfully completed 1.0 laboratory course in biology, chemistry and physics;
PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS:
All candidates must complete approved physiology, biochemistry and organic chemistry courses. Introductory biology, chemistry
and physics courses are also recommended.

Note: Only prerequisites taken within ten years of the application deadline are deemed acceptable.

subject to change) There is also information about the Physiology Challenge exam at this site.(The Physiology Challenge Exam is
offered to candidates invited to an interview who will not have been able to fulfill the physiology course requirement by the end of

Studentswho complete HTH SCI 2F03/2FF3 combination could take the Physiology challenge exam to satisfy this course requirement.
6 units (1 full course) – Biochemistry (e.g. *BIOCHEM 2EE3, BIOCHEM 2B03, BIOCHEM 2BB3). * Although the University of Western
Ontario website indicates at least one half course is required in Biochemistry, applicants from McMaster must complete a full Biochemistry course to meet the core components of Biochemistry for Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario. *Applicants
should contact Schulich Dentistry as there are other McMaster course combinations that have been approved.
6 units (1 full course) – Human or Mammalian Physiology - (the combination of BIOLOGY 3U03 and 3UU3 has been approved by
Schulich Dentistry).
3 units (1/2 course) – Organic Chemistry (e.g. *CHEM 2OA3 or CHEM 2OB3)
A Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) is required. For additional information, please contact Schulich Dentistry for their
specific requirements as well as the Canadian Dental Association at (613) 523-1770, or at www.cda-adc.ca
Interview—Selected applicants will be invited to attend a personal interview in order to be considered for admission. One must meet
competitive levels in the DAT Reading Comprehension sectional score in combination with achieving competitive university grades in order to
be invited to an interview. Interviews are usually held during a weekend in April each year. The interview is in the CDA structured format.
The interview panel consists of a dentist, a senior dental student and a layperson.
