Teaching Procedures:
Ⅰ.Pre-task phase:
Elicit the topic: How to write a descriptive paragraph?
[Suppose you have just visited a beautiful place and want to share your newly
found attraction with a roommate who didn’t go there. You have seen an exciting
movie and want to persuade your instructor to go to see it. If you know how to
paint, I’m sure you will use your brushes to make everything ok. But if you are
not good at painting, like me, never mind! Today we’re going to learn how to use
our language to describe.]

A. Review the structure of a descriptive paragraph Structure
(Introduction of the topic + Supporting Details + Conclusion) Diagram used
[ As we have learned in how to write an essay, when talking about writing a
paragraph, the most important element is… That’s the same with descriptive
paragraph. I’d like to compare a descriptive paragraph to a tree, so the first part is
called… the second part… the third one…
Unlike an essay, the introduction and the conclusion of a descriptive paragraph is
not necessarily for us to write them down. But anyway, we should keep this
principle in mind.
Now we know the structure of a paragraph, but if we only know it, can we manage
to write a good descriptive paragraph?
Definitely not.
Brainstorm any words related to following descriptive task (Snow White)

[Ok, let’s play a game,
Suppose you are one of the seven dwarfs, and you’d like to write a letter to Prince
Charming to introduce our dear Snow White.
To make our progress more smooth, let’s first do a brainstorming work. List any
word in your mind you may use in this descriptive paragraph. ]
Ⅱ.During-task phase:
A. Order/ Arrangement
Play a blank filling game to show supporting sentences should be arranged
logically. Interaction used
Analyze the sentences the students given.
Sentence Sequences such as Spatial Order, Time Sequence are suggested.
B. Using modifiers
Modifiers are suggested to the students to polish their descriptive sentences.
Exercises are done to list the different methods.
Ⅲ.Post-task phase:
A. Ask a student to present how to achieve writing a good descriptive
paragraph.
B. Adapt a writing of a student in class.
C. Write an essay as homework
