Rev. Kev’s Thoughts: “Wise and Otherwise”
I am looking for some volunteers!! We need some new readers and some new communion
ministers. I ask all of you to prayerfully think about offering yourself for these vital
ministries. In the past, we have had some fantastic readers. Some of them were very shy
about getting in front of a congregation, but then they eventually became incredibly selfassured. So, don’t be shy. If you know anyone who would be good at this ministry – like
YOU – please talk to Fr. Kevin. We hope to have a workshop on both ministries in October.
We are also going to begin RCIA in October as well. If you know anyone who might be
interested in becoming Catholic, please contact Fr. Kevin. There is NO OBLIGATION to
buy at first. You can just “come and see” and then decided whether this is right for you.
We are still looking for some auction items for the Dinner Auction at the end of October.
Please contact anyone on the committee or the rectory if you have anything that you would
like to donate.
At the last Parish Council meeting we discussed whether or not we wanted to put down any
more rock on the field for parking. As of this writing, we have decided to NOT change
anything on the field. There were two thoughts involved in this decision. First, we were not
sure whether or not we could afford to do that at this moment. Second, and more
importantly, we did not feel if it was necessary at this time to do that. I am still interested in
hearing from you. One of the things we did discuss is that if this happens again on
Homecoming Day, we would try to get the parishioners parked in some auxiliary parking
lots so that our parking lot could be used for our guests. A rain like we had this past month
was something that happens every 35 years or so, but it would be good to prepare for it
again.
Finally, thanks for all that you do for our parish. This past week we had the priests of our
deanery come out to St. Joe’s for a meeting. For a couple of them, it was their first time
here. They marveled at all that we had accomplished, especially the Parish Center and the
Chicken Shack. I felt proud, as I always do, to show them around and explain all that has
happened here at this amazing parish. So, as always, THANK YOU!

matter.”

Excerpts from Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…and it’s all small stuff by Richard Carlson
Be the First One to Act Loving or Reach Out So many of us hold on to little resentments
that may have stemmed from an argument, a misunderstanding, the way we were raised, or
some other painful event. Stubbornly, we wait for someone else to reach out to us –
believing this is the only way we can forgive or rekindle a friendship or family relationship.
A woman, whose health is not good, recently said that she hasn’t spoken to her son in almost
three years. She said that she and her son had a disagreement about his wife and that she
wouldn’t speak to him again unless he called first. She resisted the idea that she call first.
She was literally willing to die before reaching out to her only son. After some gentle
encouragement, she did decide to be the first one to reach out. To her amazement, her son
was grateful for her willingness to call and offered an apology of his own. As is usually the
case when someone takes the chance and reaches out, everyone wins.
Holy Humor: “A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman's birthday but never
remembers her age.”

word “I” in his inaugural address.
100 Simple Secrets of Happy Families:
#47 Caregiving is Personal When you dedicate yourself to the care of someone –whether a
child or an adult who needs assistance – you must take strength from your bond with this
person. Ultimately the success of your care and your ability to sustain it over time will be
based on love, because nothing else will be as constant and nothing else will be as
important. The relationship between a caregiver and the person being cared for is three
times more important in determining feelings of satisfaction and of being burdened than
other factors, such as how much outside support the caregiver receives.
NOTE: The Homecoming Sales reported did not have the start up cash deducted. The
published figure was the total deposited amount.
The total revised figure is $42,103 (less the start up cash)
Thank you from the K of C for a successful tractor cruise…over a 1000 lbs of food
was collected and the total $$ to be published later. All will be divided amongst
the local food pantries.
