Improper fraction:
a fraction in which the numerator is larger than the denominator.
Mixed number:
a whole number and a fraction.
Changing an improper fraction to a mixed number:

Divide the numerator by the denominator.
The remainder becomes the new numerator
and denominator stays the same.

Note:
Improper fractions need to be changed to mixed numbers
when reducing to lowest terms or simplest form.
Simplify:

Changing Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions:
Multiply the denominator by the whole number,
Add the numerator, and the answer becomes the new numerator,
Denominator stays the same.
Examples: 3 3 =

When multiplying mixed numbers, you will need to change
mixed numbers back to improper fractions.
