PASTOR’S PEN
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Happy Easter to all! After forty days of Lent and the
great services of Holy Week, we come together to
celebrate Jesus’ victory over sin and death. Alleluia!
The Resurrection is a mystery which we can never
understand but only believe. The Resurrection takes us
beyond the familiar to the place where God’s glory,
majesty and power lift us up to share in the new dignity
won for us in Christ’s victory at Easter. The beauty of
Easter is seen in that the Church acknowledges who
Jesus really is: One who shared in our humanity, our
pain and our brokenness; One who shared in death, yet
overcame it’s power. He conquered death that we might
share in the fullness of life.
Easter shows us that there is no power in death and
that the tomb is not the end. The final word is risen life.
In Jesus Christ, each of us is invited to lay down the
burdens of life, our worries, fears and frustrations, and to
share in the gift of eternal life.
This new life and dignity isn’t something which can
be measured or calculated. It is a freely given gift by
God who has loved each of us from the very beginning
of creation, who breathed life into us, and who continues
to invite us to grow into the fullness of life. We
celebrate this gift and remember God’s promise, not just
on Easter but every time we gather to celebrate the
Eucharist.
Have a great Easter!
In Jesus peace,
Father Raymond Moore
~2013 CARDINAL’S APPEAL~
Many of our parishioners have received a letter from
Cardinal Wuerl asking that you make a pledge to the
2013 Cardinal’s Appeal. The Cardinal’s Appeal not
only funds the operations for the Archdiocese, it funds
services that are of great help to the ministries here in
our community like Catholic Charities, the Merrick
Center.
Please prayerfully consider a generous pledge to the
Cardinal’s Appeal.
