A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem that has just one topic. The entire poem is 17
syllables, split up into three phrases (5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second
line, and 5 syllables in the third line). Haiku’s do not use rhyming schemes.
Example:
“Beautiful Trumpet” by Alyssa Rodriguez
Loud but sweet trumpet
 has 5 syllables
Perfect in its special way
 has 7 syllables
My pretty trumpet
 has 5 syllables
Assignment:
Write two haiku’s about your instrument. They could be about your love for it,
the way it looks, the way it sounds, etc. Be sure they have three lines each, with
the correct number of syllables in each line.
