Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry about one aspect of nature in which each line contains
a set number of syllables. The three lines are often arranged so that the first line has five
syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables. This is called
the 5-7-5 rule, but your haiku does not have to follow the 5-7-5 rule. Your haiku should express a
thought, feeling or mood. It should not include more than 17 syllables, it cannot have more than
3 lines, and it should NOT rhyme.

Step # 1 - Pick a topic
Step # 2 – Write down some words that make you think of that topic.
Step # 3 – Make a sentence using your describing words. Count the syllables and add or take
away words to reach the right number of syllables for the first, second or third line of your haiku.
