1. Approval of the Minutes of the 19th AGM
These were presented by Carol Forsblom and approved without comment.
2. President’s Report
Professor Fioretto acknowledged the efforts and excellent work of the local organizer James Walker
and his team.
This year’s Ruth Österby Lecture entitled “Prevention and treatment of diabetic nephropathy and its
vascular complications” was given by Prof. Hans-Henrik Parving from Copenhagen, Denmark. Next
year’s lecture will be presented by Prof. Mark Cooper from Melbourne, Australia. The funding for this
lecture from NovoNordisk expired this year. Therefore, in the future the local organizers should try to
raise funding for the lecture. Alternatively, a new sponsor should be found.
Discussion about the definition of microalbuminuria
Following last year’s lively discussion about the definition of maicroalbuminuria, this year a separate
group discussion “The definition of microalbuminuria” was organized during the meeting. The EASD or
its study groups cannot issue guidelines, however, clinical recommendations can be done. A working
group was put together, which will prepare a suggestion for a clinical recommendation/position statement on microalbuminuria by the next AGM.
3. Secretary’s Report
The active membership has been 156. This year, there were 91 registrants for the meeting and 11 observers. 60 abstracts, a slight increase from the previous year, had been submitted, 30 of which were
accepted (50%). There were 10 new members while 15 members lost their membership. The current
membership thus stands at 151 from 26 countries.
4. Matters arising
Dr. Jelka Zaletel from Ljubljana, Slovenia offered to arrange the EDNSG meeting in 2011 which was
gratefully acknowledged.
5. Next Year’s Meeting
Dr. Jan Menne and Dr. Matthias Meier formally announced the 21st AGM to be held in Hannover,
Germany 16-17 May 2008. Deadline for abstract submission was set to January 13, 2008. The abstract
selection will take place in the first half of February 2008 and the deadline for registration will be in April
2008.
