B: Seminar: Treatment of chronic heart failure. Cardiac glycosides and other
drugs increasing myocardial contractility. Use of diuretics in chronic heart
failure.

A.: Lecture: Antidyshrythmic drugs. Cardiac action potential. Disturbances of
cardiac rhythm. Class I, II, III, IV drugs+ adenosine. Mechanism of action
and clinical use.

B: Seminar: Drugs interfering with heamostasis and thrombosis. Blood
coagulation. Vitamin K. Injectable anticoagulants: heparin, low-molecular
weight heparins. Platelet adhesion and activation. Antiplatelet drugs: aspirin,

gastric secretion. Drugs used to treat gastric ulcers- antacids, proton pump
inhibitors, H2 antagonists, drugs protecting mucosa. Hepatoprotectives.

vomiting - Antiemetic agents. Drugs interfering with motility of GIT:

A: Lecture: Treatment of diabetes mellitus. The endocrine pancreas in the
control of blood glucose, pathogenesis of diabetes, metabolic syndrome.
Insulin, insulin treatment. Oral hypoglycemic agents. Biguanides,
sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones. New trends in the treatment of DM.

Glucocorticoides and Mineralocorticoides- actions, clinical use and
mechanism of action. Thyroid hormones. Drugs used in the treatment of
hypo/hyperthyreosis.

A: Lecture: Drugs used in the treatment of osteoporosis. Introduction to bone
metabolism- bone remodelling, calcium metabolism. Bisphosphonates.
Oestrogens. Vitamin D. PTH, calcitonin, calcium salts

Sex hormones- estrogens, gestagens, oral contraceptives, hormone
replacement therapy, selective estrogen receptor modulators, antiestrogens,
antigestagens, androgens, antiandrogens.

A: Lecture: Pharmacology of respiratory system- regulation of respiration,
drugs for the treatment of asthma: bronchodilators, anti-inflammatory agents.
Treatment of pulmonary obstructive disease. Drugs used for treatment of
cough- antitussive drugs, expectorants and mucolytic drugs, pulmonary
surfactants.

protein synthesis: Tetracyclines and chloramphenicol. Aminoglycosides.
Antimicrobials affecting topoisomerase. Fluorochinolones.

Cytotoxic drugs: Alkylating agents, antimetabolites, cytotoxic antibiotics,
plant derivatives. Hormones/hormone antagonists. Side effects of anticancer
chemotherapeutics - emesis, myelosuppression.
