1. INTRODUCTION
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board was formed as West

for the Engineering Colleges of the State of West Bengal. The basic purpose
was to select candidates for consideration for admission to the State Colleges
on the basis of the results of a single competitive examination which would
also lead to saving of time, energy and expenditure on the part of the
candidates in appearing at number of entrance tests.
Since inception, the Office of the Board has been functioning at Slater Hall in
the campus of Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, Howrah
– 711 103.
At present, the Board conducts four entrance examinations – (a) the JEM &
GDAT – (i) for admission of students to the 9 (nine) Medical Colleges, 3

Colleges and Universities (ii) for admission to 12 private and Govt.
Homoeopathy Colleges (iii) for admission to 2 (two) Ayurvedacharya, 11
(eleven) Physiotherapy and Unani Colleges in West Bengal. In addition to the

Agricultural University namely Uttarbanga / Bidhan Chandra Krishi
Viswavidyalaya also admit their students through the JEM, presently. (b) the
JECA - for admission of students for MCA Degree in 22 (twenty two)
Colleges and Universities (c) the JELET – for diploma holders seeking
admission to the 2nd year or 3rd semester level of various Engineering and
