BOOKING A RESTAURANT EVENT

BOOKING A RESTAURANT EVENT
1. The best restaurant for an event will be a busy restaurant: whether it is your local bistro, a familyfriendly hamburger joint, or an upscale eatery.
2. Contact the manager or owner: for some restaurants, a phone call with the manager or owner will
suffice. For other restaurants, dress in your MK best, and stop in. Bring your business cards, and let
them see how professional you are. I would suggest visiting before 11:30 a.m. or between 2-4 p.m. to
avoid the lunch rush.
Suggested Dialog for Talking with the Manager or Owner: Remember: the owner or manager of a
restaurant is always busy!
Hi, I’m Alicia Harris with Mary Kay Cosmetics. May I please speak to the Manager?...Hi, this is
Alicia Harris with Mary Kay Cosmetics. How are you today? (wait for a response). Great! I am
calling because I would love to treat your patrons to a wonderful “Customer Appreciation Event”.
(They will ask you what that is.) What I do is bring flowers for all the women who come during our
agreed upon meal time. I welcome them to your restaurant, hand them a flower and let them know
“___(name of restaurant) is having a little customer appreciation event tonight.” Then I invite them
to enter a free drawing for a beautiful gift basket with $100.00 of MK products.
The best part is, there is no cost to you and your patrons will feel special! Is there any reason why
I couldn’t treat your customers? Great! Which is your busiest night? Wonderful, how about I come
on (give a date). I will give you a call the day before to check your reservations so that I know how
many flowers to bring. Let me leave you with my name and #. Thank you very much, and I look
forward to seeing you on (give date again, and arrival time). [Plan to arrive a few minutes before
their first reservations.]
Script for booking after the event: Remember: smile and be upbeat and confident!
Hi! This is Alicia Harris with Mary Kay. We met at _________ on _____. Do you recall? Yep, I was
the flower lady that night. Anyway, I’m calling to let you know that your name was drawn as one of the
WINNERS from that event! (wait for response.) Isn’t that great? You have won a gift certificate, along
with a complementary facial and glamour makeover! Isn’t that wonderful? All we need to do is find a
great time to get together so that I can pamper you!
What works best for you? During the week or the weekend? Day or evening? Wonderful! (Book day,
time, and place.) If you have a quick minute, could I ask you a few questions about your skin so that I
have all the right products with me at your appointment? Great. (preprofile her). Now, ______(say her
name), it is just as easy for me to pamper 2 or 3 women, as it is to pamper one, so if you’d like to
include a girlfriend, sister, or the neighbors, I would be delighted to pamper them for free, as well. (If
you want, tell your hostess that you’ll give each of her guests a $10.00 gift certificate. I offer to
increase her gift cert. if she includes 2 friends.) If she declines or hesitates, you can say, now
________(say her name) if you would like me to focus solely on you at your appointment, that is ok,
too! I’ll call you a day or 2 ahead to confirm your appointment (and get your guest list). I’m looking
forward to seeing you on _____________ (repeat day and time of appointment). Leave her w/ your
name/#.
What to bring on night of event:
1. Flowers purchased from Produce Junction. I dry the stems, cut off the wrapping/rubber bands, and
place them in a large basket b/c it looks so pretty. I make sure I have extra flowers to hand to the
daughters (and sometimes the young boys want a flower, too). Give it kindly and graciously to them.
2. Entry tickets and 3 small clipboards to make it easier to fill them out
3. Pens
4. Business Cards
5. Gift bag w/tissue paper to put tickets in
6. I bring a gift for the owner or manager the first time I go there (a MK product).
Dialog for night of event: Tip: smile always, be assertive (not aggressive) in greeting patrons. Be gracious
ALWAYS if someone chooses not to take a flower or enter the drawing. Say, “Thank you anyway, enjoy your
meal!”
Welcome to _________ (name of restaurant). This is for you (hand them a flower). We are having a
little customer appreciation event tonight. We’re giving away a gift basket with $100.00 of Mary Kay
products in it (gesture to basket). Just fill out this little ticket to be entered in the drawing. (If they
hesitate, they may be thinking it costs to enter). (At that point I usually say): It is free to enter, so there
is nothing to lose in trying!
As people leave the restaurant, say Goodnight to them.
