PGSA Meeting Minutes for March 30, 2012
The following constitutes the minutes of the PGSA meeting held on March 30, 2012. Present
were: Natalie Therrien, Andrea Scerbe, Leonard Cote, Bianca Hatin, Holly Parkerson, Nicky
Pugh, Shannon Jones, Nicole Alberts, Omeed Ghandehari, Patrick Welch, Kim Zorn, Daniel
Peluso, Ryan Fitzgerald, Lindsay Friesen, Danaka Safinuk, Michelle Gagnon, Myriah Mulvogue,
Chelsea Delparte, Katherine McMillan, Ashley Viklund, Samantha Horswill, Michel Thibodeau,
Sarah Chan, Clair Barefoot, Jasmin Dhillon, Heather Eritz, and Matthew Fetzner.
I. Call to order and approval of the agenda
- Fetzner called the meeting to order.
II. Approval or amendment of last minutes
- Gagnon motioned, Fitzgerald seconded
III. Business arising from the minutes of the last meeting
- No business arising from the minutes of the last meeting.
IV. Reports of Officers
President (Fetzner) –
 Reminder that each executive position is important.
 Has tried to increase the involvement of students in PGSA and wants to thank
everyone for making an effort.
Vice-President (Eritz) – Nothing to report
Department and Curriculum Committee Meeting Representative (Peluso) –
- The psychology department has surplus funds which will be used to help financially
support students whose internships/practica requires them to leave the city. Priority
will be given to MA students and students who are going further away. The funds
may also be used to support an unfunded student via a scholarship.
- The department is also thinking of using some of its surplus funds to purchase a
poster printer. This will reduce poster printing costs from approximately $150 to
approximately $30.
Clinical Commimttee Representative (Jones)
- Nothing to report
Experimental and Applied Committee Representative (Fitzgerald)
- Nothing to report
Secretary & Treasurer (Dhillon)- March revenue = .02 (interest from account). No expenses. Current balance =
604.22.
GSA Representative (Gelinas) - regrets
- GSA elections are coming up.
Social Representative (Friesen)
- Nothing to report
Faculty Liaison (Dr. Wright) - regrets
APA Campus Representative (Barefoot)
 Nothing to report
Union Steward (Ghandehari) –
- Current bargaining agreement is for 2009-2012. Will be providing us with updates
during the Fall term.
CPA Campus Representative (Gagnon)
- Early registration deadline for the upcoming conference is May 12. Group rates at
the hotel are only until May 14. The student social will be on May 14.
- A new faculty representative is required as Dr. Baydala is retiring.
External Relations and Webmaster Representative (Welch/Safinuk) –
- Considering looking into a different charity this year.
- May organize event during psychology month or mental health awareness week in the
future.
First-Year Clinical Programme Representative (Reiser & Parkerson) – regrets (Reiser)
- Nothing to report
First Year Experimental Applied Programme Representative (Scerbe)
- Nothing to report
V. New and Unfinished Business
Unfinished Business – none
New Business
1. Elections
- Clinical representative candidates: Lindsay Friesen, Samantha Horswill
- Social representative candidates: Chelsea Delparte, Holly Parkerson, Natalie Therrien
- Department and curriculum committee meeting representative: Nicole Alberts,
Katherine McMillan
- Votes can be placed in the ballot box that is provided in the psychology department
office.
2. Gift for Dr. Baydala:
- Safinuk motioned, Peluso seconded

Unanimous vote; a farewell gift will be purchased
3. Farewell gift for Nicole Baumgartner:
- Nicole may be leaving during the summer months and a motion was put forward by
Gagnon regarding purchasing a farewell gift. Safinuk seconded. Vote in favour of
purchasing a farewell gift.
4. Participation in mental health awareness week:
- Presentations were made during mental health awareness week, however, turn-out
was poor.
- Considering taking a more active role; external relations representative will look into
this. In the past a new committee was formed to organize participation in such
events. Will discuss again in the Fall semester.
5. Spirit award
- Danika and Michelle were nominated. A vote was conducted and Danika received
the spirit award.
6. SEARCH
- Lindsay is still in the process of working with SEARCH to figure out what
psychology can offer. Will provide us an update in the upcoming Fall semester.
