By working toward either Approval and selecting the elective course as indicated, will then provide the student the ability to receive both Approvals, i.e. Bilingual and ESL, simultaneously. If the Bilingual Approval is not desired for the entire cohort, the elective course (LTIC 535) can be substituted with LTIC 515 (Bilingualism and Reading) or LTLA 539 (Children's Literature in a Multicultural Society), which may be more relevant to a district focusing on reading. In this case, those wishing to earn the Bilingual Approval may take LTIC 535 or its equivalent through a different institution or via NIU at their own expense.
