Dear Alpha Zeta,
Here are the Minutes from our first meeting of the semester:
Upcoming CANR Events
There will be a Freshmen Social in Trabant multipurpose room B on Thursday, September
11th, if you stop by, be sure to put in a good word for AZ; Sarah M. will be there passing out fliers.
The AG Fall Social, by AgCC, is on Thursday, September 11th 6 PM-8 PM in Trabant. Stop by
to mingle with fellow CANR students and faculty members and enjoy some free food.
Parents & Family Weekend will be on Saturday, September 27th at Webb Farm Equine Center
from 2 PM- 4 PM. We would like some volunteers to represent Alpha Zeta, if you are interested
please email Katie (kvsmith@udel.edu). There will be food and drinks!!
 Ag Carnival, which benefits Agribility, is on Saturday, October 4th. We passed around a signup for joining the AZ team, if you would like to join the most awesome team, please email me
(rcgood@udel.edu).
Upcoming AZ Events
This Sunday, September 14th at 4 PM we will be having the AZ/SA/AGR BBQ (that’s a lot of
letters!) on Kells Ave. at Kells Park (left-hand side before the bridge going to South Campus). A
sign-up was passed around, if you would like to attend (and you should) please email me by
Saturday afternoon. I have attached the list of people who have signed up already. We are going to
have fun games, yummy food, and good times so come on out for this welcome back event!
At our next meeting, on Monday, September 22nd we ask that all members bring tasty
cookies. We will be bagging these cookies for the faculty of CANR to show how much we appreciate
them. The Cookie-Grams will have attached notes of sincerity to the faculty and will be delivered to
their mailbox. It will make for some fun times with your family and some well deserved treats for
the faculty!
Some other events in the works are Big/Little Week, apple picking, a hayride, and more.
Details will be available as events draw near.
Attendance
We briefly discussed the Attendance Policy, which I have attached below. There has been a
minor tweak, members will now have one unexcused absence and one excused absence before
points are deducted. Otherwise, all other clauses of the policy still hold. Please email me the Sunday
before a meeting if you need to be excused or email me ASAP if you have a schedule conflict and
need to be excused for the semester.
New Positions
We have decided to add a new position that would interact with AZ alumni. This person will be
compiling a list of UD AZ alumni and possibly tracing family lineages. Sarah Cordova has
volunteered to be our Alumni Outreach Coordinator for this year! If you have any questions or ideas
please contact her (scordova@udel.edu).
This year our Recycling Committee Representative will be co-chaired by Michelle
(mlapera@udel.edu) and Kyle (kforcec@udel.edu). If you have any questions or would like to help
please contact them.
We asked for volunteers to be Pledge Masters for this year (or semester). So far, we have
Adam, Kate Kingsborough, and Sarah Cordova have volunteered for the positions. If anyone else
would like to volunteer, please let the board know ASAP. Pledging will begin very soon. We
encourage younger members to volunteer!!
Also, we asked if anyone would like to assist in revamping the AZ website. If you are
particularly computer, internet, and/or HTML savvy your help would be much appreciated; please
contact Megan (mmvitale@udel.edu).
Pledging
The board proposed to make the interest meetings more fun and have decided to hold them
at Grottos and TCBY this year. We voted on the idea to use club money to pay for these events and
it was approved. Pledging will begin approximately the week of September 29th so start thinking
about if you’d like to be a Big. The date for Initiation has been set for Monday, November 17th at 7
PM in place of our normal meeting. Remember, attendance is mandatory to this event, so save the
date.
Tidbits
We are starting an exam file, so if you have any old exams you want to donate bring them to
our meetings. Of course, names will be crossed out and you have to attend meetings to look
through the file.
We have a new mailing list system where you can email the entire club instantly (makes my
job easier). The address is alpha-zeta@udel.edu, please use this service responsibly and if you have
any trouble receiving emails notify me. There is also an address (alphazeta-officers@udel.edu) for
the officers if you ever need to contact all of us.
Dues for the year are $10 payable by check made out to Alpha Zeta or cash. The date for
turning in Dues will be Monday, October 6th, be sure to pay dues to be considered an active
member. On the topic of money, we will have a few fundraisers this year. One will be at Grottos, so
prepare to tell all of your friends! We also wanted to sell bumper stickers with a clever and witty
phrase. If you have any ideas, send them to Sarah (mainadri@udel.edu).
If any of your contact information has changed, please email me so that I can update the list.
I will also bring it to our next meeting so that you can make updates in person.
Farewell
Well folks, that’s all for now. Welcome back to UD and I hope your semester has begun on a good note!
See you around!!!
