PART 1 GENERAL

2.01 MATERIALS

Setting: Mortar shall be type S.

Mix in as stiff a consistency as can be worked.

All mortar is to conform to latest A.S.T.M. standards.

2.03 SAMPLES

A. Representative samples of stone shall be submitted for architect’s approval.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.01 SETTING SPLITFACE STONE – GENERAL

A. For exterior applications apply 2 layers of 15# felt or better over sheathing or backup as required by current code.

B. For exterior application apply sure cavity and sure cavity weeps provided by Masonry

Technology, Inc., Phone: 563.547.1122.

C. Fasten self furring galvanized metal lath over moisture barrier using hot dipped galvanized nails 6” on center vertically and 16” on center horizontally, penetrating the studs a minimum of 1”. Securely attach lath with concrete nails or screws for concrete wall backup systems.

D. Apply scratch coat of type S mortar over lath.

E. Stone shall be brushed free of dust and foreign matter.

F. Stone shall be wetted sufficiently to take up surface absorption.

G. Use type S mo rtar for setting stone. Apply approximately ½” thick mortar to back of stone and tamp stone into place.

H. Stone is to be selected so colors are evenly distributed throughout the job.

I. Apply stone from the bottom up.

J. Grout joints in style desired

3.02 CLEANING

A. Stonework shall be kept as clean as possible as work progresses. Upon completion if necessary, stone shall be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water and completely rinsed after scrubbing with fiber brushes. The use of acids or wire brushes will not be permitted.
