JOB DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE
Substantial and successful teaching in the EY Foundation
Stage
To provide support and advice on the Early Years Foundation Stage
framework to all Kingston Early Years settings
Knowledge and understanding of effective strategies to
support young children
To provide advice and support to early years settings and practitioners
on the management and support of children
Experience of providing advice, support and evaluation of
teaching approaches in the EY Foundation Stage
To provide training within early years settings
To ensure the delivery of an Inclusive education for all children in line
with the equal opportunities policy of the Early Years service
Curriculum innovation and implementation.
Supporting the work of a wide range of Early Years
practitioners in the Private and Voluntary sector
To provide setting based support, working alongside colleagues,
modeling good practice in delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage
Curriculum
Successful experience of monitoring other people,
working as a team member and of leading teams
To improve the quality of teaching and learning across all settings and
in particular the non maintained early education settings offering the
free entitlement
To monitor, evaluate and report on the standards and quality of
provision in the EY Foundation Stage and to provide appropriate
support and advice
To offer advice and support to setting working towards Quality
Assurance accreditation.
To work with staff in all settings to promote and develop effective
partnership with parents
To build upon and disseminate good practice in the EY Foundation
Stage
To produce guidance, information and other resources in the Early
Years Foundation Stage for all educational settings.

Management experience in the EY Foundation Stage
To report annually (with monthly reviews) on the standards, quality of
education provided and management of the Early Years Foundation

Experience of providing and delivering training in a variety
of Early Years settings.
To support key priorities within the Children and Young people’s Plan
and EY team plan by identifying areas for ongoing support and
improvement
Commitment to improving learning outcomes for all groups of learners
within the EYFS
KNOWLEDGE
AND SKILLS
Strong early year’s philosophy with a clear vision of how it
might develop to meet current and future challenges.
To promote continuity and progression within the Early Years
Foundation Stage and between phases – into Key Stage 1.
Knowledge and understanding of the Early Years
Foundation Stage Curriculum
To support settings in effective and accurate self review and
identification of priorities
A thorough understanding of the purposes and value of
excellent planning and assessment of children in early
years settings.
To advise and support on planning and assessment
Ability to organise and provide purposeful, interesting and
imaginative training which has a demonstrable effect on
improving the quality of education and its impact on
learning
Ability to plan a programme of work with appropriate
priorities which is accessible to a range of staff
An understanding of the needs of the different providers
for under fives
Ability to provide clear, positive leadership yet work
collaboratively in partnership with colleagues in a range of
settings providing Early Years education
A clear understanding of how monitoring and evaluation
can improve standards in early years settings
Ability to articulate a commitment to a set of values and
principles, underpinning primary education

To work positively within the Early Years Team ( Advisory Teachers
and Childcare Development Advisors) to meet the aims of the CYPP
To attend regular meetings with line manager
To work closely with the wider learning and school effectiveness,
children’s centre and family support service teams
Good Early Years communication and presentation skills,
both oral and written, and including ICT
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to be self-critical and to think and plan analytically,
achieve harmonious relationships with colleagues from a
wide range of sectors e.g. health, community services,
schools
Ability to inspire, enthuse motivate and influence
colleagues.
Broad understanding of multi-agency approach.
A capacity for hard work and competence at managing
changing priorities

The ability to do some twilight work, evening work and
weekend work
Attend and contribute to EY service team team meetings
The ability to work positively within a team, valuing and
supporting colleagues
Attend setting support meetings with multi agency teams and termly
leadership and management meetings
Sense of humour
Honest, open, trustworthy
Good health record
Current clean driving licence is essential
