Meeting of the Governing Body held in St John's Parish Centre on
Monday 17th September2012 at 4 pm
Present: Mr G Shaw (Chair), Mr W Ainscough, Dr J Bunn, Rev G Cuff, Ms H Lewis, Fr C Oxenforth,
Mrs K Sothmann , Mr R Webb, Dr S Wilks-Heeg, Mrs S D’Alton (Headteacher)

Apologies for Absence
Apologies for absence were received and accepted from Mrs Purcell and Mrs Young.
Rev Cuff opened the meeting in prayer. He welcomed Suzanne and Roger to the meeting and
thanked Mrs Stoddart for agreeing to clerk the meeting.

Confidentiality
Governors were reminded that all items discussed were confidential until the Minutes had been
posted on the website.

Declaration of Pecuniary Interest
All governors completed pecuniary interest forms, The forms to be retained in school. Copy of the
form to be sent to those governors not present.

Election of Chair
Rev Cuff informed governors that he did not wish to be considered for the position of Chair.
Rev Cuff nominated Mr Shaw, seconded Mr Wilks Heeg.
Mr Shaw was elected as Chair for the academic year 2012/13.
Mr Shaw offered his thanks to Gregor who he said had steered the ship during very difficult times.
Suzanne also thanked Gregor for welcoming her to the school and the support she had received
from him.

Election of Vice- Chair
Mrs Young had indicated that she did not wish to be considered for the position of Vice-Chair.
Nominations were sought for the position of Vice Chair.
Rev Cuff nominated by Mrs Sothmann, seconded Mr Shaw.
Mr Wilks Heeg nominated by Mr Webb, seconded Mr Ainscough.
Following a secret ballot, Mr Wilks Heeg was elected as Vice Chair for the academic year 2012/13.
Mr Shaw asked that thanks be recorded to Sinead for all her hard work and support, especially in
preparing the information on formulation of policies. Mr Shaw to write to Sinead to record his
thanks.

Clerking
Mr Shaw informed members that Mrs Hampton had retired from her position. Mrs Hampton had
recently undergone surgery. Rev Cuff would be visiting Carole in the near future. Governors
expressed their thanks to Carole for all her service to the school over an extended period.

Minutes of the Governors’ Meeting held on 18 June 2012
Minutes of the meeting held on 18 June were agreed as a true record subject to the following:
The SEN policy had been agreed and accepted by the Governing Body.

Matters Arising
Item 8 ( 2011/12) Headteachers Report
Gary and James to work with SEN Co-ordinator. The information on SEN had been analysed. Each
case was genuine. Suzanne to review each child on School Action and School Action Plus. Suzanne
reported that this had already begun.
Confirmed that SEN to be a standing agenda item.
Information concerning the Y6 SATs results would be provided at the next meeting. At present, the
unvalidated were shown to be outstanding with 100 % Maths and English level 4.
Admissions
Reception 25 pupils
Year 6 gained 2 pupils
Year 3 gained 3 pupils.
Mrs D’Alton reported that there was a possibility of 2 more pupils in Year 2.
School Council
Governors agreed that members of the school council would be invited to attend a governors
meeting. Governors were informed that a new panel was in the process of being elected. Following
elections, arrangements would be made to meet the Chair and Vice Chair.
Item 1S- Chairs Correspondence
The information had been collated and sent to the LA who had provided an appropriate response.

Head teacher's Report
Mrs D’Alton provided the following verbal report. She thanked governors and staff for the warm
welcome she had received.
SEN- Mrs D’Alton was currently reviewing the detail of all children on School Action and School
Action Plus. Arrangements were being made for her to meet personally with all parents.
James Bunn ( SEN governor) would work with the SEN Co-ordinator on strategic issues concerning
SEN.

CPD- Mrs D’Alton was reviewing CPD throughout the school. All staff had booked onto CPD for the
next academic year.
Mr Ainscough, Mr Webb and Mrs Hobson had booked to attend a one year course run by the Diocese
“ Leadership within Church Schools ”.
Teaching Assistants (TA) had also signed up to training. Weekly meetings were to be held. All TAs
would undergo Performance Management. This would take place from October 2012.
RE and Worship- Mrs D’Alton had attended St John’s Church to worship with the Youth of the Parish.
A written headteachers report to be provided at the next meeting to include the following:

Mrs D’Alton was thanked for her report. Governors said they looked forward to receiving the reports
as the school moved from strength to strength.

Pupil Premium
Discussion took place concerning the use of pupil premium to support the breakfast service.
Governors felt that there was evidence to suggest that children would perform better if they had
breakfast. Mr Parry informed governors that pupil premium needed to show evidence of pupil
progress.
Governors agreed that this issue would be delegated to the Resources Committee as an agenda item.

Headteacher’s Performance Management
John Parry outlined the procedure for Performance Management. Governors agreed that they would
wish the LA to provide support for the process.

Email addresses
Governors agreed to share email addresses. These addresses to be kept confidential to governors.

Head teacher personal email address
Mrs D’Alton reported that two parents had used her personal email address. She confirmed that her
personal address was not for use by parents.

Narnia experience
Dr Bunn informed governors that places were available from 1 October.

Inset
Information would be provided on the proposed input for the Inset day to be held on 7 January
2013.

Policies
Copies of the list of proposed policies had already been circulated. Discussion took place on
governors assigned to these policies. It was agreed that this would be redistributed including policy
review. This would be discussed at the first committee meeting.
Thanks were offered to Sinead for all her work in developing the policy document.

Pre School Nursery Group
Mr Shaw reported that the stay and play group were no longer based in the school. The rooms within
school had been refurbished and were being utilised for one to one work and inclusion groups.
