Practices
This Observation Guideline is based on the teacher creating a best practice flipchart
using the HCPS Promethean Flipchart Rubric as a guide.
Indicators
The teacher uses the Activboard in interactive ways (for more than a projection screen or
traditional whiteboard, etc.)
The teacher presents the lesson in flipchart format, using Activstudio software.
The teacher is able to confidently select and manipulate different tools from Activstudio’s
Main Toolbox.
The students frequently have control of the Activpen to interact with the Activboard.
The teacher’s lesson includes the use of Activotes or another student response system, and
the Activslate (if available) to maximize student interaction.
When available, students are using individual laptops to be active participants in the
lesson.
The teacher varies the usage of features of the Activboard to keep students motivated
and/or to present different content concepts.
The teacher’s flipchart lesson is visually stimulating; students can easily focus on important
text, images, and concepts.
Mulimedia features ( images, video, and/or animation) of the flipchart lesson have
appropriate connection to content and purpose of flipchart.
All students are actively engaged and participating, either individually or in groups, in the
lesson.
1. The teacher clearly communicates learning goals.
2. The teacher incorporates visual, auditory, and kinesthetic components into her flipchart
lesson in order to address all learning styles.
3. The students are given opportunities to process information non-linguistically, as with
graphic organizers, 2- and 3-D models, pictures, graphs/pictographs, etc.
4. Students have multiple opportunities to practice the skills, strategies and processes they are
learning at the Activboard.
5. The teacher includes formative assessment in the lesson and uses student response systems
(Activote/Activote VR if available) to provide students with instant feedback and help
identify errors in their thinking.
6. The teacher recognizes and celebrates growth.
