This short list of fellowship and grant opportunities will help you find funding to support your research at Texas
Tech. Note: Awards offered by US government departments/agencies are reserved for US citizens and permanent
resident aliens in the US.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships – for students pursuing basic and
theoretical research (not applied). Three-year fellowship at $27,500 per year, plus tuition. Deadlines in first week of
November 2003.

Department of Defense (DoD) – for science and engineering students pursuing research that benefits national
defense requirements. Deadline is January 9, 2004.

Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (CSGF) is a program funded by the Department of Energy, Office
of Defense Programs and Office of Science. Study must include computer science, mathematics, and a scientific or
engineering discipline. $28,000/year plus expenses, up to four years. Deadline for online application and other
materials is January 14, 2004.

Department of Homeland Security – for beginning and first year students in physical, biological, social and
behavioral sciences. $27,600 per year, up to three years. Deadlines in Spring 2004.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) – for master’s
and doctoral level students in environmentally related fields of study. Three-year fellowship at $25,000 per year,
plus tuition and fees. Deadline is November 20, 2003.

NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program (GSRP) –for graduate study leading to research-based degrees in
the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. $24,000 per year, up to three years.
Deadline is February 2, 2004.

AT&T Labs Fellowship – for outstanding minority and women students who are pursuing PhD studies in computer
and communications-related fields. Includes a summer internship with AT&T. $14,000 per year for up to six years.

IBM PhD Fellowship Program– for PhD students in disciplines including chemistry, computer science, electrical
engineering, materials science, mathematics, mechanical engineering and physics, as well as emerging technical
fields, such as e-commerce, nanotechnology, and the computational sciences. $17,500 per year, up to three years.
Deadline December 15, 2003. Non-U.S. Citizens who wish to participate in an internship in the U.S. must obtain
work authorization under the specifics of their particular visa.

Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities – for students in disciplines including life sciences and
social sciences. $17,000 per year, up to three years, plus tuition and fees. Deadline is November 19, 2003.
