Weather Advisory Bulletin – Vellore District
(Period 13th to 17th May 2015)
A. Weather for the past four days (08.05.2015 to 11.05.2015)
During past four days around Vellore area, the sky was partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with
0.6mm of rainfall. Maximum temperature was 36.0-39.0°C and Minimum temperature was 27.029.0oC. Wind speed was 2-4 km per hour. Relative humidity was recorded between 39-80%.

Agrometeorological Advisories
Livestock :
1. Light rainfall will be expected from 14.05.2015 to 17.05.2015.
2. Follow routine farm management practices in a dairy farm.
3. In poultry shed water tank and water lines may be covered with gunny bags to
provide cool drinking water during hot part of the day.
4. During day time farmers are advised to sprinkle water to high yielding dairy cows 2
or 3 time to reduce heat stress.
5. Due to increase in day temperature animals should not be allowed for grazing during
hot part of the day, provide cool drinking water and shade to the animals to reduce
heat stress.

Imp.Crops:Rice, sugarcane, sesame
Rice and sesame –Vegetative stage.
In the sugarcane crops spray potash and urea each at 2.5% level during moisture stress
(water shortage) period at 15days interval.
Incidence of pod borer, shoot and leaf webber is being noticed in summer sesame due to
the prevailing hot weather condition. To control this,spray Quinolphos 25 EC at 400
ml/acre or Neem oil 2%.
Farmers are advised to utilize the summer rain for ploughing their agriculture land in order
to control weeds and insects larva in the soil.
Stem borer incidence is notice the paddy crop. Hence farmer are advised to spray any one
of the following Monocrotophos 36 SL 1000ml/ha (or) Quinalphos 25 EC1000 ml/ha (or)
Phosphamidon 40 SL 600 ml/ha (or) Profenophos 50 EC 1000 ml/ha.
