B.
Clean surfaces thoroughly before installation.
C.
Prepare surfaces using methods for achieving best results for substrate under project conditions.
D.
Prepare for Installation:
1.
Interior walls up to a height of 3000 mm (10 Feet):
a.
Install over Gypsum Wallboard (Primed)
b.
Install over Gypsum Plaster (Primed)
c.
Install over Exterior Grade Plywood, Group 1, CC-type
d.

E.
Prepare for Installation of Thin Veneer Stone:
1.
Cleaning: Clean built-in items of loose rust, ice, mud, and other foreign matter before
incorporating into wall.
2.
Temporary Bracing:
a.
Provide temporary bracing as required during installation of thin veneer stone.
b.
Maintain bracing in place until the thin set mortar has set firm (typically 24 hours at 21
degrees C (70 degrees F)).
3.3
INSTALLATION
A.
Install thin veneer stone and mortar in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and ACI
530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602.
B.
Pattern Bond:
1.
Lay out work in advance and distribute color range of stone uniformly over total work area.
2.
Lay stone with face exposed.
3.
Take care to avoid concentration of any 1 color to any 1 wall surface.
4.
Do not use stacked vertical joints.
C.
Placing and Bonding:
1.
Apply the thin bed mortar to the substrate with scraping motion, using flat side of the
notched trowel. Work the thin bed mortar into good contact with substrate. A trowel with
notches large enough to ensure full thin bed mortar coverage to the backs of the stone
panels is required. Back-butter each stone panel with a thin layer of thin bed mortar, applied
in one direction.
2.
Firmly press stone panels into the fresh thin bed mortar and move them perpendicularly
across the ridges to flatten and compress the ridges. This helps to produce maximum
coverage to the backs of the stone panels. Do not apply more thin bed mortar than can be
covered within 10-15 minutes, or while thin bed mortar is still workable. Periodically remove
and check stone panels to verify full thin bed mortar coverage is being achieved to backs of
the panels.
3.
Allow stone panel installations to set for 24 hours at 21 degrees C (70 degrees F). Excess
thin bed mortar must be cleaned from the surface of the stone with a clean, wet cloth sponge,
while it is still fresh. Stone must be supported until the thin bed mortar has set firm – typically
24 hours at 21 degrees C (70 degrees F).
