Flash Fiction Story Discussion Assignment
By Wednesday, April 18, please compose and print 5 thought provoking questions that you will base
discussion of your story upon. On a second document, give your answers to the questions that you ask.
You can write multiple choice or short answer or even matching questions, depending upon what you think will
work best.
Overall, the questions should be concerned with any of the following:
 What is the author’s purpose in this story?
 What does the author do that is unique?
 How does the author structure the story to convey the theme?
 How does the author create characters and conflict?
 How does the author use /convey voice and tone, and how does each of them add to the story?
 What is the impact/significance of setting upon the story?
 What is the impact of particular literary devices on the story?
I will be responsible for copying your questions and distributing them during the class period that precedes your
discussion. During the discussion, I will simply record the number and quality of responses for each participant.
Your task in the discussion is to keep people on track and to make sure that
 the discussion hits the central points that you want to make (but don’t just announce your own version
of the “right” answers- guide them, but don’t tell them).
 brings new insight to what the story means
 shows the students how it’s written
 analyzes why the author wrote it in that particular way.
