Glennon Brothers was established in Longford in 1913 by 2 brothers, William and
James Glennon, upon their return from America. William’s son Paddy took over in
1943 and led the development of the business into the early 1990’s. Paddy’s sons Pat
and Mike are now at the helm as joint managing directors.
Glennon Brothers operated as a single site in Longford until 1998 when it acquired
the Woodfab sawmill in Fermoy, Co. Cork from the Smurfit group. The company
then invested over €25 million in state of the art equipment to transform the Fermoy
sawmill into one of the most modern in Europe.
In October 2005 Glennon Brothers bought the privately-owned Windymains Sawmill,
situated just south of Edinburgh, from Jim Harrison, who is still involved in the
business. Run autonomously under the leadership of chief executive David Rodger,
formerly of BSW, the mill has an 80,000m3 capacity and converts Scottish-grown
timber into high quality fencing and treated carcassing for the construction industry.
Overall, the Glennon Brothers Group is one of the largest producers of kiln dried
timber in the British Isles. The Group now employs over 210 people with an annual
turnover in excess of €60 million, with sawn timber sales of circa 290,000m3.
Windymains and Glennon Brothers are major suppliers of fencing timber in both the
UK and Irish markets. The main products supplied include posts, rails, boards, and
feather edge. In the last ten years, Glennon Brothers has successfully developed new
consumer products such as Glendeck Decking and Glenfence fence panels. The Group
also supplies a number of sectors such as builder’s merchants, pallet and packing case
manufacturers, and timber frame and roof truss manufacturers.
Glennon Brothers have a long standing relationship with Osmose. Glennon Brothers
operates a pressure treatment facility in Longford for green treatment and
Windymains operates a pressure treatment facility for either green or brown
treatment.
Through its operations in both Ireland and Scotland, Windymains and Glennon
Brothers can service customers throughout the UK and Ireland with a fast, reliable,
just in time service. Glennon Brothers are committed to developing long term
relationships with customers. If you would like to discuss anything about either
