6.0 Old Business
6.1 Contacts with Societies Discussion – Bill Allen
Bill Allen has been talking to the TNT Creative Group, Tina Lange, President and
Owner, about branding and helping us with some third party facilitation of soul searching
for CCTS. Tina Lange, an expert consultant in aerospace matters, is preparing a letter to
send out to all of the CCTS Member Societies to get some feedback on things that are
important to them today and relevant to what they can use from CCTS to do certain
things. In a few day days, I’ll have a cut of that back and gather what is useful for
our current Societies today and we may even consider sending this to folks that we want
to induce to join CCTS when this is ready it will be sent to our Societies. Tell your
Boards and respective Societies to let them know that this request is coming and to
tell them that we really value their feedback from this. Then CCTS can refine its Mission
Statement accordingly. This will help us define what today’s world looks like, what is
important in today’s world and how we can positively affect today’s world in the role
that we are given as is relevant to our Member Societies. That all starts to flow
downhill as to how we structure our events, like Space Congress® and other events and
with whom we partner. When this data come back, we need to have a facilitated session,
either of this group or a committee thereof For example, in our 43rd Space Congress
discussing, Jim Banke brought the aspect of our thinking down stream to the 50th
Anniversary of Apollo 11’s Landing on the Moon and really having a large week long
Event. Bill Allen mentioned that we could add an event to our 43rd Space Congress and
gradually add more events each year to arrive at this weeklong festive event. Joe Brown
commented that we should make sure that NASA and the Air Force are aware of this as
they have contributed heavily to our Space Congresses® in the past. When this Member
Societies assessment of what is important for them in a CCTS organization is finalized,
Bill Allen has a list of some 20 organizations that he feels might want to be member of
CCTS. Carey Beam noted that one thing that we need to convey to our Member
Societies is that we are to host a virtual Job Fair to be held around the Texpo Event of
October 8th using Brevard Workforce’s model designed for that event and we need the
Member Societies to promote this virtual Job Fair Nation-wide, through their National
Organizations, as this will be a benefit to the Societies to draw people in to this Space
Coast Area, who might be looking for a career change or a move for their family. If
3
601st CCTS Board Meeting, August 14, 2013
our Societies are struggling with membership, this is one way to help get members into
the area and it would also help show that CCTS has the power, through their Member’s
National Organizations, to reach many thousands of technically minded individuals and
start educating them about career opportunities here on the Space Coast, the great way of
life here and the wonderful knowledge base here, and also bringing in the businesses to
support those jobs, which is important. Carey Beam said that we are going to contact
those companies in this area using the list that Bill Macdonald supplied of some 72 high
tech and aerospace companies in the Area, to see if they would like to participate in the
virtual Job Fair maybe at a cost of $50 per company. Bill Allen mentioned that, in
addition to the increased focus on aero in the Area, we will want to have another focus on
aerospace manufacturing.
7.0 Committee Reports
7.1 By-Laws – TBD
No Report
7.2 Publicity – Bill Allen
See Item 6.1. Also, Bill Allen appointed Carey Beam and Jim Lewis to Co-Chair the
CCTS Publicity Committee.
7.3 Outreach Education, Projects – Dr. Jim Johnson
Jim Johnson spoke to LaDonna Netterer at the Space Club Meeting and she agreed to put
on the NAL web site, announcements of the upcoming CCTS Robotics Event. The NAL
monetary check in support of that event, will be mailed to the CCTS Office by September
13th. As an additional note, Bob Sieck gives a great presentation, he doesn’t use many
pictures, but relies on word charts, he is an educator, he like to speak to young people and
to schools; high schools or college level. He talks about all three major failures that
NASA had: Apollo 13, Challenger and Columbia and how to fix some of those problems
and what not to forget as you go along in your work. I also received a letter from
Brevard Schools Foundation thanking us for our donation of $250 for Space Week.
Maybe, in the future we could donate it through the NAL, as at their Meeting they show
everybody who donates on a chart and as there are 350 people there, that would see
“CCTS donates”; that might be helpful in getting our CCTS name before other people.
7.4 Membership – Bill Allen
7.4.1 New CCTS Society Submittals
Bill Allen appointed Laura Seward to be the CCTS Membership Chairman.
Laura Seward has a list of 24 potential Society members, received from Bill
Allen, to whom she will make contact proposing CCTS Membership. Dave
Fleming mentioned that he has contacted the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
about re-joining CCTS, but no response has been forthcoming as yet. Fred Martin
suggested that Engineers without Borders-Space Coast Florida Professional
Chapter, would be good to contact – they are a dependency of ASCE. Bill Allen
noted that some of these potential Societies may not want to join CCTS, but we
should consider partnering with them in some fashion in what they do.
7.4.1.1 Society for Technical Communication (STC)
Dave Fleming has been in contact with Karen Lane, the President of the
Orlando Central Chapter of STC, and she has appointed Sarah Baca to
take on the work of sending a letter asking to join CCTS. Sarah Baca has
been on vacation - no application has been received as of yet. Bill
Macdonald brought out that Dawnell Claessen has already been appointed
to be the Primary Representative and Karen Lane to be the Alternate
Representative to the CCTS Executive Board.
7.5 Long Range Planning and Goals - ALL
See Item 6.1.
4
601st CCTS Board Meeting, August 14, 2013
7.6 Other Conferences and Seminars - ALL
7.6.1 43rd Space Congress Planning Committee Meeting – Jenissa Garcia
Bill Allen noted that the 43rd Space Congress Planning Meeting was held
yesterday. It was decided to revise the previously submitted 2-day schedule of
events. The dates of the Congress were finalized to be April 24-25, 2014.
Joanne Longo mentioned that we have not finalized the venue as yet, as more
information on costs and facilities is needed. The virtual Job Fair will be done in
coordination with Texpo on October 8th. Bill Allen mentioned that we also have
the chance to participate, as a sponsor, in an Eastern Range Evolution Discussion
at FIT on November 1st. In the morning session there will be presentation by the
45th Space Wing and the FAA Commercial Space Office and by a horizontal
launch operator and vertical launch operator. In the afternoon, there will be a
panel session on what the Range might look and feel like in moving forward.
There will be no cost to CCTS, but we should gain some visibility. A Luncheon
will be held and the speaker is planned to be George Whitesides of Virgin
Galactic. This will kick off at the Melbourne Airshow that will have a Party at
the FIT Hanger, Melbourne International Airport on the evening of November 1st.
7.6.2 Future Robotics Event Planning – Dave Fleming
The next Meeting of the Robotics planning Committee will be August 28th here.
The meeting includes representatives of the FIRST™ organization and of various
member teams. The Second Annual CCTS Space Coast Robotics Day will be
held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 9 AM to 3 PM at Roosevelt Elementary
School, Cocoa Beach. A new feature, this year, is to have a series of workshops
for the high school students: one on Computers, one on higher level Robotics,
one on a launch experiment going to the International Space Station and with
Dave Fleming doing one on Composites. The number of CCTS Member
Societies sponsoring the Event includes INCOSE, AFCEA, AIAA, NAL as well
as CCTS itself. It is hopeful that we will have more publicity this year, to get
more professionals through the door to interact with the Students.
Carey Beam mentioned that the Art & Algorithms Festival in Titusville, October
4th to 13th, is looking for live demonstrations and Robotics would fit in fine with
that Festival. Jim Lewis thought that maybe having a cross promotion might be in
order; like the Robotic Teams might have a table or a poster to put-up at the
Festival and promote the Art & Algorithms Festival at the Robotics Competition
at Roosevelt Elementary ßchool. Dave Fleming mentioned that CCTS has
pledged an amount of money to this Robotics Event this year, but that amount still
has to be drawn from the CCTS Savings Account.

8.0 Special Committee Reports
8.1 Computer/Web Site - Dr. Al Koller
Al Koller mentioned that our web site got hacked over the last weekend and he has put in
a triple selection of software to keep it from happening again. But to clean it up, I had to
remove all the users some real, some fake. We did not lose anything, but we were
vulnerable, but I think with this added selection of software, we won’t be vulnerable
again.
