2007-2008 Undergraduate and Graduate Curricular Changes: Addendum
April 17, 2007
All of the following changes have been published in the 2007-2008 Undergraduate and Graduate
Calendars respectively, with the exception of those denoted with approvals arising from (a)
subsequent meeting(s) of the academic unit's faculty board in 2007; the latter category of change
will be posted as Updates on the 2007-2008 Web Calendar.
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Art History
Minor Course Change
1. Delete course ARTH 2806 Art and Ideas: From Ancient Greece to the Twentieth
Century, to correspond with its cross-referenced counterpart, PHIL 2806, which was
deleted.
Child Studies
Minor Program Change
1. Item 4 in the Honours and General programs has been modified to include SOCI 3300
and SOCI 3810, as an adjustment originating from course changes made by Sociology in
2004-2005.
French
Minor Program Change
1. The original program changes (Items 1, 2, and 3) preventing students from counting the
same courses for CFLS, CFLTL, and CFTS toward the Minor in French was withdrawn
at the request of SCASP as the change constitutes a regulatory, rather than a program
change.
Greek and Roman Studies
Minor Program Change
1. In the B.A. Combined Honours in Greek and Roman Studies Item 8 has been changed
from 4.0 credits in electives not in Greek and Roman Studies (CLCV, GREK, LATN) or
the other discipline to 5.0 credits to correct a typographical error.
Italian
Minor Course Change
1. Change of course hours for ITAL 2000 Intermediate Italian from three hours per week
plus out-of-class requirements to four hours per week plus out of class requirements.

Philosophy
Minor Course Changes
1. A preclusionary statement has been added to new course PHIL 3150 Metaphysics,
precluding credit for PHIL 2302 Metaphysics which it replaces.

The title of PHIL 2001 Introduction to Symbolic Logic has been changed to Introduction
to Logic.
The title of PHIL 2003 Informal Reasoning has been changed to Critical Thinking.
The title of PHIL 3501 Philosophy of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence has
been changed to Philosophy of Cognitive Science.
Religion
Minor Program Change
1. Item 4 in the B.A. Combined Honours Religion program has been corrected to read "1.0
credit in RELI at the 4000-level, including RELI 4301," rather than "0.5 credit in RELI
4301."
Sociology
Minor Course Change
1. New course Advanced Studies in Quantitative Research, originally introduced with the
number SOCI 4004, has been renumbered to SOCI 4009, as SOCI 4004 was used too
recently for another course (no longer offered).
Women's Studies
Minor Course Change
1. A statement precluding credit for WOMN 3808 [1.0] Theory and Methods from a
Feminist Perspective has been added to WOMN 3809 [0.5] Feminist Approaches and
WOMN 3810 [0.5] Feminist Research in Our Contemporary World respectively, as the
two courses replace WOMN 3808.
Sprott School of Business
Minor Course Change
1. The "NCD for Law students" statement from BUSI 2601 has been removed, to make
consistent with late 06-07 regulatory change approved by Senate summer 2006.
Faculty of Engineering and Design
School of Architecture
Minor Course Change
1. ARCH 2006 Introduction to Industrial Design is re-titled ARCH 2006 The History and
Theory of Industrial Design, to make consistent with its cross-referenced counterpart,
IDES 1000.

Minor Course Change
1. Course hours for NET 3900 Wireless Networks has changed from original submission, to
correct a transcription error, from "Lecture three hours a week, tutorial/laboratory three
hours a week," to "Lecture two hours a week, tutorial/laboratory three hours a week."

Electrical and Computer Engineering - Ottawa-Carleton Institute
Minor Course Change
1. SITE EACJ 5132 (ELG 5132) Smart Antennas, EACJ 5133 (ELG 5133) Introduction to
Mobile Communications, EACJ 5360 (ELG 5360) Digital Watermarking added to course
list to reflect changes made at the University of Ottawa. (Graduate Faculty Board

European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies
Minor Program Change
1. Completion of the language requirement - the required minimum grade of B is an
incorrect transcription in the curricular document. The required minimum grade is B+
and the Calendar has been changed to reflect this.
Geography
Minor Course Change
1. New course Special Topics in Cultural Geography, originally introduced with the
number GEOG 5401, has been renumbered to GEOG 5406, as GEOG 5401 had been
used recently for another course (no longer offered).
Minor Program Change
1. In the physical geography courses listed under the M.Sc. program, reference to GEOG
4003 and GEOG 4008 has been changed to GEOM 4003 and GEOM 4008 to reflect
changes in the course designations in the Undergraduate Calendar, and reference to
GEOG 4006 has been removed, as this course is no longer offered.
History
Minor Course Changes
1. New course HIST 5000 Historical Practice [1.0 credit] has been renumbered HIST
5001, as HIST 5000 had been in use within the last 10 years for a course that is no
longer offered.
2. A statement precluding credit for HIST 5000 Historical Practice [0.5 credit] (no longer
offered) has been added to the new course HIST 5001 Historical Practice [1.0 credit].

Linguistics and Applied Language Studies
Minor Course Changes
1. The new course Research and Theory in Academic Writing originally introduced as
LALS 5604, has been renumbered to LALS 5607, as LALS 5604 had recently been in
use for another course (no longer offered).

The new course LALS 5409 originally introduced with the title Policy, Accountability
and Practice in Literacy and Language Education has been renamed Policy and
Practice in Literacy and Language Education.
Neuroscience
Minor Program Change
1. The requirement for PSYC 5200 (BIOL 5304) Basics of Neuroscience is moved from
Ph.D. program requirements to Ph.D. admission requirements. Neuroscience explained
that it was always their intention to require that successful completion of PSYC 5200 be
required in order to be admitted into the program; its original placement as an element of
ongoing program requirements had been in error.
Minor Course Change
1. Reference to PSYC 6200 (BIOL 6303) in the program requirements is changed to PSYC
6202 and PSYC 6203 to reflect the Psychology course changes.
Public Policy and Administration
Minor Course Changes
1. Piggyback statements have been added to the following courses, in keeping with
piggyback statements in the Undergraduate Calendar (undergraduate equivalent noted in
parentheses): PADM 5213 (PADM 4213), PADM 5221 (PADM 4221), PADM 5224
(PADM 4224), PADM 5225 (PADM 4225), PADM 5226 (PADM 4226), PADM 5227
(PADM 4227), PADM 5228 (PADM 4228).
Sociology
Minor Course Changes
1. The new course Governance, Power, and Politics, originally introduced with the number
SOCI 5406, has been renumbered to SOCI 5407, as SOCI 5406 is already in use for
another course.
2. The course SOCI 5406 Citizenship and Globalization has been added to the 2007-2008
Calendar. It was originally approved as a late change for the 2003-2004 Calendar but not
added to the print edition until now.

Minor Course Change
1. Program requirements for all programs are modified to reflect the introduction of new
course SOCI 1003 [1.0], from: 1.0 credit in SOCI 1001 and SOCI 1002 to: 1.0 credit
from SOCI 1001 and SOCI 1002, or SOCI 1003 [1.0]. (FPA Faculty Board, March 8,

Economics
Minor Course Changes
1. Prerequisite change for ECON 3706 Applied Econometrics from: ECON 1000 or FYSM,
and ECON 2202 (or equivalent) with a grade of C+ or higher, to: ECON 1000 or FYSM,
ECON 2201 (or equivalent) with a grade of C- or higher, and ECON 2202 (or

2. Prerequisite change for ECON 4706 Econometrics I from ECON 2202 (or equivalent)
with a grade of C+ or higher, to ECON 2201 (or equivalent) with a grade of C- or

European and Russian Studies
1. All references to the Institute of European and Russian Studies are changed to the

Minor Course Change
1. In the list of Russian and Eurasian electives reference to PSCI 3301 has been changed to
PSCI 3311, to correspond with a renumbering of the PSCI course (see Political Science
section below).
Minor Program Change
1. The following note has been added to the B.A. Combined Honours in European and
Russian Studies: "Note 3: No more than 1.0 credit from HIST 1001 [1.0] and HIST
1002 [1.0] may be counted toward the concentration requirements included in the Major
CGPA in the B.A. Combined Honours, " to make explicit the intention regarding the
maximum number of allowable courses from these two, originally described as an "or"
statement in the list of electives.
Political Science
Minor Course Changes
1. The new course History of Muslim Political Thought, originally introduced with the
number PSCI 3301 has been renumbered to PSCI 3311, as PSCI 3301 had been recently
used for another course (no longer offered).
2. Under the section, Selection of Courses, reference to new courses PSCI 4200
Reproductive Rights in North America and PSCI 4201 Women and Politics in North

America has been changed to PSCI 4403 and PSCI 4506 respectively, as the course
numbers had been changed in the Undergraduate Calendar.

Biochemistry
Minor Course Changes
1. A cross-reference statement to COMP 3308 has been added to BIOC 3008 as the two
courses are cross-referenced.
2. A cross-reference statement to COMP 4308 has been added to BIOC 4008 as the two
courses are cross-referenced.
3. A preclusionary statement (precluding credit for new course BIOC 4906) has been added
to existing courses BIOC 4907 and BIOC 4908, which preclude credit for BIOC 4906.
Earth Sciences
1. The original set of Earth Sciences proposals provided to Senate on December 1, 2006
were withdrawn after Senate, as they were based on incorrect information. A subsequent
submission has been referred back for Science Faculty Board approval.
Minor Course Changes
1. The prerequisite for ERTH 2404 Engineering Geoscience is changed to require
enrolment in a B.Eng. program, in addition to i)ERTH 1001, ERTH 1006 or ERTH 1007
or ii) (PHYS 1004, PHYS1007 or PHYS 1008) and (CHEM 1101 or CHEM 1000 [1.0]).

2. The prerequisites for ERTH 2414, Applied Geoscience (one of ERTH 1001, ERTH
1006, or ERTH 1007 or permission of the Department), have been removed. (Science

Minor Program Change
1. Earth Sciences with Concentration in Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoecology
program: move ERTH 3805 as a requirement in Item 3 (and reduce the number of credits
required for Item 3 to 2.0 credits from 2.5), to the list of courses in Item 6, from which
