COMMENCING OUR 25TH YEAR AND CENTENARY OF BOWRNG PARK GOLF CLUB
Well done All !!
I am sure that our late President, Peter Bowring CBE, will be very pleased that another member of
the illustrious Bowring family , Henry Bowring J.P.D.L, has accepted our invitation to succeed
Peter Bowring as President, kinsmen from the family of Alderman William Bowring who gifted
Roby Hall Estate to the City in 1906, renamed BOWRING PARK Estate at its official Presentation
12 June 1907, in honour of the giver. Wonderful that Sir William’s distant relatives remain
supportive of the perpetuity of the estate and its immense benefit to the community and to golfers.
PLEASE ATTEND THE 24TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TO BE HELD ON 20TH APRIL,
TO WELCOME MR HENRY BOWRING AS OUR NEW PRESIDENT.
1pm BUFFET LUNCH and film show illustrating some of our activities in Bowring Park
2pm AGM agenda attached.
3pm Planting soft fruit shrubs in the new shrubbery in walled garden. Gifts of shrubs welcomed.
Blackcurrant * red currant * white currant * gooseberries * other BUT not raspberries.
Can be bought at ALDI or any garden centre – or even homegrown from cuttings,
Or make a donation for the purchase of a shrub for further plantings.
All gifts recorded in our leather bound COMMEMORATIVE APPEAL BOOK.
The fruit shrubbery reintroduces the original Kitchen Garden character of walled gardens.
They will have seasonal interest, Spring blossom, Summer fruits to sample as you walk by,,
Autumn leaves and a wildlife habitat too. Development of cuttings will keep costs down.
Please join FOBP Shrubbery Development Group to help this worthwhile project along..
The Coach House has now re-opened, the boiler having been given a new punp, which has restored
heating. Audrey was so chilled through in early March, that a viral infection developed and lasted
for weeks, preventing her from opening up. Boiler and Audrey now both recovered and in
full power for the supply of teas, baps, cakes, scones and a chat, with a variety of helpers including
Pat, Ron, Do, and Andy Johnson who has joined our rota for occasional golf breakfasts or if needed.
A few more volunteers and we will really be rolling, perhaps opening every day at some point ?
Currently Saturday ( 9 to 4pm) Sunday to 11am, then 2-4pm, Tues Wed Thurs from noon to 4pm.
It is fun to do, some very friendly and interesting people come in, park visitors too for information.
CONGRATULATIONS to Paul Wheeler , the new General Manager on behalf of MACK, Robbie
having left for a new job in Kirkby. Paul is keen to work with FOBP as well as the golfing
fraternity, and will attend the AGM to give an update about Bowring Park estate.
BEST WISHES to Joyce and Fred Robinson, having a frail time, to Viv Broughton for her valiant
cheerful efforts to overcome recent disabilities, and to everyone who needs a bit of cheering up.
