SYMBOLON - Catholic study program…. Our next
class on the Catholic faith will be held on Sunday,
January 11, 2015 at St. John’s. This is not just for those
who are new to the Catholic faith, but for anyone who
desires a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith.
The schedule is as follows:
1:00 PM - The Bible: God’s Love Letter to Humanity
2:30 PM - The Story of Salvation: Creation, Fall and
Redemption
“Every time we turn on the news, we hear about all the
horrible things that are happening in the world. We get
the message that life is a meaningless struggle and that we
have no purpose, no reason to be here except to get as
much as we can before we die. How sad is that? As
Christians, however, we know that God does have a
purpose for each of us and our lives.”

A New Year’s Gift for Each of You
Fr. Dan is giving a New Year’s Gift to each family of our
parishes. It is a DVD titled “Mary.” Why do Catholics
focus so much on Mary? Of all the teachings of the
Catholic Church, those that are among the most
misunderstood tend to center on Mary. Now, learn what
Catholics really believe about Mary…and why. Please
take an extra copy(s) if you would like to give to family
and friends.
*this episode is taken from Symbolon: The Catholic
Faith Explained and is about 36 minutes in length.

them for a 1 night mini-mission with Chris Stefanick on
Sunday, January 25 at 6:30PM. Please come especially if
one feels stuck in a mechanical routine, REBOOT LIVE!
will offer a shot in the arm to get out there and live the life
God calls us to live. Our Confirmation students are
required to attend this retreat.
It is with great anticipation and joy that the diocese
cordially invites you to the 2015 World Meeting of Families,
September 22nd through 27th at the Philadelphia Convention
Center in Philadelphia PA. Since its inception by Saint John
Paul II in 1994, the World Meeting of Families has sought to
strengthen the sacred bonds of family across the globe. Join
us for a week of spiritual enrichment, as we discuss the
multifaceted issues facing families today during the various
keynotes and breakout sessions. You will hear practical
talks from a wide variety of engaging speakers on the
reality of the Catholic teaching on marriage and family
life. With a central goal of strengthening families in very
practical ways, this conference promises to give all who
attend something to take home and share in their own
faith communities. Following the event the diocese
anticipates on being blessed to celebrate Holy Mass with
Pope Francis! In order to manage the registration process,
accommodations, travel, etc…the diocese has engaged
Canterbury Pilgrimages, an organization that has been
specializing in Catholic Pilgrimages and events for over
21 years! With their assistance, they have three simple
goals;
1. Encourage as many attendees as possible to join our
diocesan pilgrimage to Philadelphia
2. Share the conference together as a diocese
3. Most importantly, return with a renewed sense of
purpose regarding the family ministries we serve.
There are registration forms in the entrys of the churches.
Congratulations to Rusty and Hilary Makelky on the
birth of their son, Dane Joseph.

made and donated to St. Mary’s-G. We appreciate it.
Thanks to everyone who helped make my 90th birthday
celebration so special. To Fr. Berg for the nice Mass and
birthday wishes; to Deacon Jim for his nice homily and
hands on blessing at the end of Mass; to Michelle, Gary,
Whitney, and Emily Hardy, Kayla Dolyniuk, Paul and
Mary Lee Schmitz, and Lynn Keller for the beautiful
choir; to the Mass servers; to our 11 children, spouses,
and grandchildren who traveled a long distance in the
cold; for the abundance of good food; to Vicki and the
Manor for use of the activity room (which is a blessing);
for all the cards, calls, hugs and birthday wishes. It truly
was a birthday to remember. I love you and God bless
you. Christine Finneman
