FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 8, 2015
On Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at approximately 08:03 pm, the Anchorage Fire Department Dispatch received a 9-1-1
call reporting a fire at 94th & Old Seward Highway. Nine AFD units were dispatched to the fire. Upon arrival, AFD
units discovered an outside fire at an illegal camp, located at 800 E 94th Ave. A large column of dark smoke was
visible as far away as the upper hillside. The illegal camp was extensive. There appeared to be a working area
where bicycles were being repaired (this was the area that burned), a sleeping area and a cooking area. The area
that burned was 10' x 10' and included what appeared to be a makeshift work table, several bikes, grease guns,
tarps, etc. There were no occupants in the area. AFD crews continued work until the fire was extinguished. There
was no damage estimate given.
