Marking is done on a holistic basis. In order to attain the higher levels, the lower level information must
have been progressively obtained.
Question One
It’s to write down homework (that teachers give), on the page that it’s due
It’s like a homework diary
You can also glue / stick / paste timetable in it (Must have element of glue for Merit)
(Online cahier de texte) is for parents to check / keep an eye on / control (Not test) homework (that’s been given)
It’s safer / better / worth writing it down, otherwise you might forget it
(In any case / anyway) it does not exist at their / her / our school yet
(Most important / essential is) the correspondence / communication between school and parents
Eg register / record absences
Punishment / if you’re punished
Parents, teachers and supervisors can all at any time / for whatever reason / occasion write a message / ask
question / appointment (Not on any occasion)
(Teachers) write assessment grades / marks for tests
Must be presented (when going out of school) between classes and when teacher absent
First / front page has a form filled by parents showing they agree (to student being allowed out)
It’s in some ways / kind of / sort of like a passport

Question Two
(Uniforms) are everywhere / at the supermarket, bank and even at the local bar / the bar of her neighbourhood etc
Uniforms are a lot less obvious in France, in everyday life
She’s not used to it (so many uniforms)
She hasn’t been / wasn’t brought up / raised in an environment with a lot of people in uniforms
(Worries) when her kids go to school (because the oldest is almost 5) so will go to school soon (inference)
Happy there is no uniform in primary school
They are thinking of moving to / settling down in the South Island
Most of the schools there have made it compulsory
(Anyway) it will be compulsory at high school later on
It’s a lack of freedom and a way to kill / stifle individuality, ambiance / atmosphere is different in New Zealand
(schools) than in France (inference)
On top of that / as well, with same clothes (meaning uniforms) and if you add the fashionable hairstyles that you
see everywhere, (one can’t recognise one’s own children)
New Zealand system of education is more advanced (she thinks) / more modern
School addresses the needs of the individual / person much better than in France / in her former country
(The contradiction of) making kids wear a uniform goes against the beautiful / grand ideas of education
