Classroom Behavior/Good Choices
Dear Parents,
This year, I will be using several behavior
management plans. Two of the plans will focus
on the individual student and one will focus on
the class as a whole.
In addition to our school wide Code of
Conduct, the students and I have developed
some general classroom guidelines that we feel
will create a classroom environment that fosters
learning.
Code of Conduct:
 I am respectful
 I am responsible
 I am caring
 I am safe
 I show integrity
 I am a Bully Buster
General Classroom Guidelines:
 Do your work
 Do not talk when the teacher is talking
 Be nice







Do your homework and return it on time
Be helpful
Listen to and follow directions
Use inside voices
Raise your hand and wait to be called on
Respect property
Have fun
Individual Student Behavior:
*Clothespins:
Students will have their name on a clothespin
that will be at the start position each day. If
the student is not making good choices,
following the classroom guidelines or following
the school Code of Conduct, they will move
their clothespin to the next color.
There are four colors with consequences:
Blue: Warning- Students have a chance to
think about their behavior and begin to
make better choices.
Yellow: Students miss the next recess (or
part of it) to complete a “Think Sheet” that
helps them think about what they did and
why they did it. These may or may not be
sent home for a parent and/or Principal
signature depending on the severity of the
incident.
Orange: Students may miss more recess to
complete another think sheet and/or
conference with the teacher about his/her
behavior. Parents will be sent a copy of the
completed “Think Sheet” to complete, sign
and return to the teacher the next school
day. A misconduct form may be completed
and sent to the Principal depending on the
severity of the incident.
Red: Parents/Principal will be informed of
the student behavior. Think
sheets/Misconduct forms will be completed.
Teacher will call parent and a behavior plan
may be implemented.
*Tickets:
Students will have the opportunity during
the day to earn tickets.
They can earn tickets for:
 making good choices
 being “spotted” doing something
nice/kind
 helping others





being a Bully Buster
being a good worker
being a good listener
showing extra effort
showing improvement
When student earns a ticket they place their
name on the ticket and drop it in a
container. At the beginning of the day, the
teacher will spin a number from 1-8 to
determine how many tickets to pull at the
end of that day. Friday is “double day”
which means that whatever number was
spun in the morning is doubled and I pull out
that many ticket winners. If a student has
their name drawn, they get to pick from the
prize bin. If a ticket does not get pulled, it
will stay in the container for the next day’s
drawing. Tickets not pulled on the last day
of the week will be recycled and the process
will begin over again for the next week.
Whole Class Behavior:
Class Bingo Chart:
There is a “bingo” behavior chart posted in
the classroom. It has 5 rows with 5 numbers
in each row. The numbers go from 1-25. If
the whole class has made good choices a
“bingo ball” is pulled from a container. The
number on the ball is located on the bingo
chart and turned over. When the chart
shows five in a row (horizontally, vertically or
diagonally) the class will celebrate.
Possible celebration ideas:
 extra recess
 game time
 arts & crafts
 movie
 special snack
 itouch time
 computer lab time
If you have any questions about these plans feel
free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Karen Melvin
