ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH
NEW! UNDER THE SEA (ages 5 to 8)

Join regional artist Rebecca Robitaille for eight weeks of artmaking fun! Participants will explore the materials and
techniques of water-soluble media including drawing, painting and printmaking with inks, watercolour and acrylics
representing the colours, textures and shapes of all things under the sea!
NEW! EXPLORATIONS IN DRAWING (ages 9 to 13)

Bring your drawings to life! Participants will learn traditional and contemporary drawing techniques and materials
from regional artist Christina Luck and explore the visual elements of line, shape, placement, shading and colour.
LIFE DRAWING FOR YOUTH (Grade 11 & 12 students)
Dates:
January 11 to March 7, 2016 (no class on February 15)

Mondays: 6:30 to 8:30 pm, 8 workshops; live model for all classes

Join regional artist Marshall Geddes and learn drawing techniques using a live model that will boost your portfolio
submission. In addition, participants will learn effective ways to discuss their artwork as well as experiment with
various drawing media and acquire knowledge of Design Principles. Please note: written consent must be
provided for participating youth under 18 years of age.
W-EDGE: THE GIF PROJECT (ages 14 to 18)

January 13 to March 23, 2016 (no class on March 16)

Wednesdays: 3:00 – 5:00 pm, 10 workshops

Wednesdays are for art with an edge! Guided by regional artist Sean George, this drop-in art programme is
designed to offer like-minded youth a place to meet and be creative. Spend art-filled afternoons creating a
largescale painting exploring fluctuating colours, shapes and patterns, culminating in a group exhibition this spring
at the Gallery.
STUDIO PROGRAMME FOR HOMESCHOOLERS (ages 5 to 14)

Enjoy a dynamic experience with art! Guided by regional artist Christyn Grampola, participants will be inspired by
the current exhibitions featuring contemporary Indigenous artworks and create art with a variety of techniques and
materials, exploring drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and so much more!
PA DAYS AT THE MACLAREN! (ages 5 to 8 and ages 9 to 11)

Spend an art-filled day at the MacLaren! Led by a regional artist, children will begin with a tour of the current
exhibitions and be inspired to create a variety of fun projects. Before and aftercare is available from 8:30 to 9:00
am and from 5:00 to 5:15 pm for an additional $10. Register for one or more workshops. Register at least one
week in advance. Please pack a peanut-free lunch and snacks for morning and afternoon nutrition breaks

2016 MARCH BREAK ART CAMPS
Register for the week or choose your days! Register one participant for four days during March Break Camps
2016 and receive the fifth day free! Friends of the MacLaren can additionally apply their 10% discount. Before

FUTURE WORLDS CAMP (ages 5 to 8)

This camp is the perfect way to make the most of March Break! This full-day camp led by practicing artist Christyn
Grampola will engage campers in a variety of innovative art techniques and materials. Imagination is the limit
when campers create visual narratives of their own world from characters, environments and buildings. Tours of
the exhibitions Alice Teichert: Decipher and Allyson Clay: Irregular Lines will inspire participants throughout this
camp. Register for the week or choose your days!
CITY LIGHTS CAMP (ages 9 to 12)

Spend a creative March Break at the MacLaren! In this full-day camp led by practicing artist Marshall Geddes,
participants will be inspired by current exhibitions exploring text, printmaking and sculpture to create an
imaginative, mixed-media cityscape. Tours of the exhibitions Alice Teichert: Decipher and Allyson Clay: Irregular
Lines will inspire participants throughout this camp. Register for the week or choose your days!
