Norway & Latvia Packing List 2015
The following is not designed to be an exhaustive list but will hopefully give you an idea of the kind of things you need
to take on this programme. Any questions please ask steveanddebs@sotonnavs.org
•Backpack: At least 65L with good padded hip-belt and straps. (We would also advise that you can actually carry your
bag without toppling over backwards……always useful whilst running away from Moose in Norway)
•Daypack: For carrying emergency supplies of chocolate and Lefse on hikes in Norway and carry-on whilst travelling.
•Rucksack cover or lightweight duffel bag: To put over your backpack when flying.
•Sleeping bag: For use throughout the trip
•Waterproof Walking boots: If you want feet at the end of Norway, bring them!
•Trainers: Essential for the obligatory games of dodge ball and capture the flag.
•Flip flops / Sandals
•Cutlery / Bowl / Mug: We may go camping in Norway and/or Latvia
•Swimming Costume
•Towel: Micro-fibre will save space and save you carrying around a sopping wet towel for a month!
•Waterproof Coat and Trousers: To stay dry outdoors
•Hoody / Fleece: To stay warm
• Gloves: Very useful high up in the mountains
•Clothes: Shorts / T-shirts / Trousers – Bring enough for about 10 days so that you don’t need to wash your clothes
too often (a washing machine is available in Elvheim). Layers work much better than bulky items, and don’t just bring
jeans once they’re wet they will be for ever!
•Underwear and Socks: Please!
•Nice clothes: For sightseeing and Church (girls bring 1 skirt)
•Passport / Tickets / EHIC Card / Travel insurance documents – DON’T FORGET THESE!
•Student Card if you have one: Norwegian Bus/Ferries give discounts for students (factored into budget)
•Foreign Currency (Kroner for Norway and Euros for Latvia): For personal souvenirs, ice creams and treats.
•Bible / Notebook(s) / Daily Quiet time notes / Pens: You won’t survive without them!
•Water Bottle: You will struggle to survive without one
•Torch
•Camera / Batteries / Charger: You’ll kick yourself if you don’t bring one!
•Mobile Phone: While we strongly encourage participants to be “fully present” we also recognise that some will need
to send regular texts to friends/family. Make sure your contract works outside the UK!
•Personal Party Trick / something to show your culture: You are travelling internationally and will be amongst
many different cultures. These will help you say something about where you are from.
• Travel adapter: No three pin plugs to be found here
•Sun cream / Sunglasses: It’s most likely going to be sunny.
•Personal Drugs: Prescription ones that is.
•Toiletries: So you don’t smell too much.
•A sense of adventure!
